Can you really come up with a startup idea on your own without lived experience of solving it or talking to people?
Just research, reading and claude?
Reasoning without practical experience
"software is dead" is obviously wrong.
"software engineering as a profession is dead" might turn out to be right.
If you disagree tell me specifically how is the ai replacing engineers is different from the power loom replacing textile workers.
The clothing industry BOOMED, as a matter of fact. Because it was now possible to produce much more, dirt cheap.
Same could not be said for the workers.
When intelligence becomes abundant, anything whose value comes primarily from reproducible information processing faces severe competitive pressure.
And sufficiently general agents may make even specialized workflows reproducible.
Yes, but you didn't answer the underlying point about who captures the value.
People aren't saying "software is dead" from a consumer pov. Obviously tons of software will be written because it's easy to write them.
They are saying it because companies will make orders of magnitude less money from them and as a result won't be able to employ engineers in large numbers because their own revenue drops off a cliff.
