@levelsio Hey Pieter, lags a lot on my mobile. Maybe bake/remove the lights on the runway? Dynamic lights use a lot of processing power.
https://t.co/KKwngDZ11s is a 3D driving sim on the web, I believe it doesn't use dynamic lights and pretty good performance.
It turns out that Octree wasn't the best choice...
After hours of experimentation and debugging, I've decided to switch to a physics engine instead. No issues so far with Rapier 🙏. I'm also using bitecs now, can't imagine how it could be done without ECS.
That's enough reason to make yet another Minecraft clone 😅
But seriously, if you think it's easy or pointless, try making a Minecraft clone. I'm sure you will learn a lot.
@leeerob I have read Tao of React and Tao of Node from @alexanderkondov this year, and it definitely taught me a better way of building things. Although a bit specific, I think core principles can be applied anywhere.

@ronaldwichhart@joepoole@arvidkahl Yep, you can use Cloudflare Zero Trust Tunnels for free, and it doesn't require static ip address.

I experimented with collisions today, no physics engine, just an octree. I want this project to be as simple as possible.
Also, any software recommendations to record browser tabs? I think this one has some bitrate problems 😆
I'm trying Three.js on a small project, and it's actually very convenient. I remember using OpenGL in C++ to make 3D games and it was a lot of work.
I also see many web games made with PlayCanvas and WebGL 🫡 What are you using to make your web games?
We were inspired by https://t.co/XHJXe1S2zn when making the tutorial feature, it's a great game with great engineering and shows what's possible in the browser, made by @shatterspine.
Whenever I make a game, I feel like how to play is obvious to the people. But I know the game inside out (as I've written the code).
Now we have tutorials, you can get a sense of what to do in the game. Have fun!
