THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE! GPT-5 just made original math.
Sebastien Bubeck gave it an unsolved convex optimization problem that humans had only partially cracked. GPT-5-Pro thought for 17 minutes, then produced a brand-new proof improving the known bound from 1/L to 1.5/L. Verified by Bubeck himself.
This wasn’t online. It wasn’t memorized. It was new mathematics.

Humans later pushed it to 1.75/L, but GPT-5 independently advanced the frontier first.
An AI just contributed research-level math.
We’re officially in the era where AI isn’t just learning math it’s creating it.
