It has been two years since BuzzFeed Canada unionized. We still don't have a collective agreement. It has been a long two years but we are dedicated, united, and eager. ✊
Here's an update on our negotiations so far.

Today we’re presenting a proposal to BuzzFeed management on wages and pay structure in our newsroom.
Our goal is to address two important issues at BuzzFeed News: Extreme pay disparities between teams and a byzantine “leveling” system that leaves employees in the dark. Thread 👇

"It's not just food we have to scrape for. A female employee who joined in 2016 said her current salary is so low, she qualifies for affordable housing where she lives"
Solidarity to the @zdcreatorsguild workers ✊
Today, the Ziff Davis Creators Guild is walking out in protest of management’s egregious and insulting wage proposals.
After over two years of bargaining, management has not worked with us in good faith to secure a fair contract for our members. #WereWorthMore
Our fight for fair pay at @pitchfork continues on Monday, where we expect to tackle wages at the table. Underpayment has been endemic at the site for years, and many talented writers and editors have left because of it. Here are some testimonials from former Pitchfork staffers:
It's been more than four weeks since our entire newsroom was laid off by Buzzfeed.
We are still fighting for fair severance. Today we are calling on Buzzfeed to honour the contributions of our contract workers and long-service employees. (THREAD)

In recent weeks we have shared these concerns internally with @peretti and @BuzzFeed to no response.
We are calling on them to give these workers fair and equitable severance.
Solidarity with our Canadian colleagues, whose newsroom was entirely gutted in our recent round of layoffs. All of its employees deserve fair severance.

After acquiring HuffPost Canada and abruptly closing the digital media outlet, BuzzFeed is not treating all laid-off employees fairly in terms of severance pay. https://t.co/PuhUl9xOWc
Today is a sad day. This morning, we found out that BuzzFeed will be shutting down operations of HuffPost Canada and Quebec next week.
All of our staff are now out of a job.
Today, BuzzFeed announced the closure of HuffPost Canada and HuffPost Québec as well as layoffs at HuffPost US.
We stand in solidarity with our colleagues. This is our statement.

Today, we learned that 33 of our unit members — nearly 30% of our unit — are being laid off. Our union's statement: "We are devastated and infuriated, particularly after an exhausting year of covering a pandemic and working from home." (1/x)
Today the workers of HuffPost Canada and HuffPost Quebec officially filed to join @cwacanada1.
We are proud to work at HuffPost Canada and HuffPost Quebec. We are unionizing to make it the best workplace possible.
