5yrs ago was the beginning of AB govt stating openly: they do NOT VALUE doctors and they went to war against them
Next govt came in, pretended to make nice, but still does this:
1 won’t act on their advice
2 states anyone can do their job
3 treats them like an expensive irritant
@TheBreakdownAB Infuriating to listen to this - she knows AHS does not hire the doctors for that work. Neither does Covenant. This is a problem made by the government of AB.
Take a read as to what the docs in Hinton think the solution to improved HC Access is in Hinton (which requires FM/Rural generalists to staff their EDs and hospitals) 👇
I did find it odd that the Minister had an "announcement" in Hinton and didn't have any of the docs join her.
Attended @Albertadoctors AGM last night.
TLDR:
1. #healthcare system in complete freefall & chaos
2. No current negotiation b/w @Alberta_UCP & @Albertadoctors
3. #MDs leaving, no longer hoping for any improvement
4. Consultants paid ++tax $$ by gov but ignore #AB MDs

"I'm heartbroken for the people in my community that are going to look (to) that legislator and see someone who has attacked them, made them feel like garbage" — Lacombe Pride on Jennifer Johnson, now welcomed into UCP caucus. https://t.co/imiSw5f17g
*NEW* Hinton Emergency Department will be CLOSED as of 8pm Tonight (Oct 2) until 7am Oct 3 - ED will also be CLOSED 8pm Oct 3rd to 7am Oct 4th! OF NOTE - Hinton Emergency is a Primary Stroke Center for North Zone - This means stroke patients will have to be diverted (Cont.) /2
High River is one of the busiest rural medical teaching sites in Southern AB. It has historically been among the most stable sites, previously so stable there were discussions about having its own residency program.
@Bjwrz@AHS_YEGZone So they are saying you must accept the patient even though the attending doctor is saying they are over capacity? ! Does CMPA have advice for this?
Got to speak with @RosieBarton@CBCNews today along with @Albertadoctors President on the state of health care, medicine, and physicians in Alberta. It is almost guaranteed that if the UCP is elected again, many doctors will exit the province #demoralized

Please, everyone, read this. And please digest what it says and why everyone's vote matters. It matters a lot right now. Couple of comments about this. /1
We cannot convince new grads to do family medicine. We cannot find replacements for those who quit or retire. Doctors accepting new patients in Edmonton zone have dropped from 285 to 39 in the past 3 years. It is so hard to say no everyday when asked if we can accept someone.
As emergency doctors we are witnesses to the system- wide healthcare crisis in AB. This letter (signed by over >180 Calgary ED docs) adds our voice to the untenable state of healthcare. Albertans deserve quality, compassionate, and timely emergency care: https://t.co/Z4eCQVLB4B
Did you know that when a family doctor does a home visit on a house bound patient in AB that the doctor gets paid nothing for their commuting time. Even when the return trip takes an hour. Nothing. And they wonder why people won’t do comprehensive family medicine. #abhealth
.@AbDanielleSmith attracted another deplorable. UCP candidate in Calgary-Fish Creek, Myles McDougall, says “Black Albertans don’t want education, don’t want to raise their children, and live in a ‘ghetto culture’.
This is who they are.

This is sickening. How can voters possibly vote for someone who compares some children to feces? Taking a course in communication can’t fix this degree of hatred. #ableg
It seems ever 3 days written, video, or audio evidence surfaces from current or hopeful UCP politicians.
I worry that we are becoming numb to the lies, racism, and misogyny.
Today’s revelations of dehumanization of trans children is pure evil.
Alberta, vote out the rot.
I will never forget how the UCP choose to treat family doctors (2019-2020). We know how much they disrespect us. They have played their cards on healthcare. The whole party stood behind them. #abhealth#UCP#AlbertaElection2023

1. In February 2020, UCP MLA Tyler Shandro met with Alberta physicians concerned with UCP health policies
When Shandro was given a copy of a new contract the province proposed for physicians, he tore the contract in half in front of physicians and other attendees
