Road space is being reallocated from general traffic to bicycles on Edgbaston Road, according to a key principle of Birmingham Transport Plan of encouraging more people to cycle and walk to improve personal and environmental health, as we work towards net zero carbon by 2030:]

Today - 20 May 2020 - I asked central government to support a default 20mph limit for all residential streets in Birmingham. A letter has been sent to @grantshapps & I look forward to further backing from MPs and the local community who want a safer city for future generations.
Getting hit by a car at 70km/h is like falling from the 6th floor. At 50km, it's like the 3rd floor, & at 30km it’s like the 1st. And that’s before we factored in that vehicles have been getting bigger & deadlier.
Speed kills. Slowing down would literally save millions of lives.
ALL residential streets could become 20mph in Birmingham plus more camera enforcement. Bold, beautiful words in new safety plan. Thanks @bham20mph https://t.co/HZeZC9BDLh
