I’m seeing a lot of takes about what’s happening in OK regarding the attacks on public ed, 2SLGBTQ+ folks, and others.
Listen to me when I tell you we are living on the frontlines of extremism and it should absolutely matter to y’all who don’t live here. We are the canary🧵
@PhilBacharach I still have trauma from the image of my tweens putting their fingers in their ears when I tried to indoctrinate them with Rage Against the Machine.
Today, the first bill of the 2023 Oklahoma Legislative session explicitly targeting 2SLGBTQ+ was filed. HB 1011 would ban best practice medical care for transgender young people up to the age of 21.
Get ready for a red state to declare the evidence around birth control is “low quality,” that it is harmful, and for bills restricting birth control for under 18s, dropping insurance, and enacting registries and bans.
Trans rights, bodily autonomy, it’s all the same fight.
- NYT hit piece on trans kids
- Texas attempts to round up trans kids and imprison parents
- Ohio tries to take away trans Title IX rights, force detransition

Trans "visibility week" isn't enough.

Gratitude doesn’t come close to encompassing what I feel for Nicole, their team, and everyone who cares enough to sit in the grief and fear and rage with us without looking away. Thank you.
I'm normally good at updating y'all throughout the legislative day, and I am sorry I feel short on that. When I arrived at the Capitol this morning, my megaphone was confiscated, even though I have seen them let folks in with full mics + speaker set ups.
If you've expressed concerns about what Ryan Walters would do if elected, it's critical you tune into the State Board of Education, a body made up of the elected State Superintendent and gubernatorial appointees. Tomorrow, they're ready to enforce another unconstitutional law 👇
*kind note: this is not just a sad day for women*
1: everyone should be outraged by this decision
2: women are not the only people who need access to abortion
3: your friends who 'get it' & are 'working on it', that are only talking about women right now - call them in.
