Over the years since all of the Pod guys graciously guested our Let America Vote internship meetings, I've found myself vacillating between agreement and opposition to their takes. Which is healthy and fine.
Especially though, I've often disagreed with their assessment of the Democratic Party as an institution, because many of their takes feed into the belief that elected Democrats and leaders could have more control over the party and its direction/brand than is reasonable to actually assume.
But this is a very honest and good breakdown of the elected officials within the party and poses an honest question and critique that, I believe, gets to the heart of the Democratic Party's poor approval numbers and brand across the country. 👇💯
One of the defining characteristics of CA’s primary will be how little on-line content & day to day activity mattered to the majority of voters.
Spencer Pratt’s ads, Tom Steyers paid influencers, Xavier Becerra’s unexpected rise…on-line conventional wisdom got it all wrong
And since people are posting receipts after the huge drop for Nithya today, here's my reaction seeing the first results post on Election Night.
It was never guaranteed, but for everyone following the math, the pathway to get to this moment was clear from the beginning.
Ok, this is actually the most helpful math I've seen on this, and matches the numbers I'm tracking.
FWIW, current estimate as of this Friday morning is between 250-260k LA mayors race ballots remaining and Nithya is averaging ~13% on these last MIB returns.

Trump got 27% of the vote in Los Angeles in 2024 - social media hype aside there’s a real chance that Pratt ends up underperforming Trump outright once all the votes are counted.
@likebutterfield I don't disagree with your analysis, and good points, but also on the ground here tracking returns, it's very unclear if he will advance.
Super bummed I don't live in LA to vote for @AdamMillerLA, but happy to have my field deputy help me cast my ballot!
I voted for @WolffOnYourSide and @AVillaraigosa, he voted we go immediately to the park!!

🚨Big shift in CA ballot returns!
2026 is now AHEAD OF 2022 Primary by 330k votes.
Dems are turning in their ballots - highest rate of the cycle at 54% share.
Dem turnout from Seniors has rebounded - now only down by 1.3% from 2022.

SEPP KUSS!!!!!!!!!!
This man is legend. SO happy for him. SO proud for Durango. What a ride, what a rider. Absolutely incredible.
Cycling is the best. Way to go, Sepp!!!

The Australia social media age of 16 policy (for account creation, not viewing content!) is working as expected––usage declined substantially in the first stage, and is likely to decline further as Australia presses the companies to do better. (That will get ever easier as the tech for effective and privacy preserving methods improves, now that there’s a big market for it).
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and Australia took that first step. Many more steps to come, and many more countries are setting out on that path.
I want to applaud @CassSunstein and Leonardo Bursztyn for highlighting something I definitely agree with: "Tipping points can be crossed, as the smoking decline shows. The lesson there is that laws are most likely to change behavior when norms move with them." We need to change societal norms and incentives if we want laws like this to succeed. They offer great advice for the countries that are setting out on the path to get a faster start.

Working for @AdamMillerLA is such a privilege. At a "Hotcakes & Housing" forum and every question is a layup for him because HE HAS ALREADY DONE ALL THIS!!
Creating jobs, getting people off the street, building affordable housing, doing disaster recovery - how many Campaign Managers out there are lucky enough to have a candidate who knows all the talking points already because they have been in the weeds on literally all the top issues on the campaign.
It's incredible to watch and I'm very grateful to be on this team. Go Adam!!
@SwannMarcus89 You should check out @AdamMillerLA. Don't let polls from March fool you, he is the candidate who truly understands the issues facing LA, has a plan and operational know-how to get it done, and as a life-long Democrat is right in line with the median LA voter
Tonight’s debate made three things clear:
The mayor isn’t up to the job.
The councilwoman can’t manage the homelessness crisis she helped oversee.
The reality TV personality isn’t prepared for this office.
LA deserves better than excuses, ideology & chaos.

No good reason for NBC excluding Huang and Miller.
There's more than enough room for 5 candidates to talk about their vision for LA. Also fun to look back at ABC's decision to exclude Becerra from the Gov debates based on early polling & he's now one of the leading candidates.
The Mayor and Councilwoman argue over who is at fault. Spencer is excellent at theater, but has no experience in leadership or finance.
As mayor, I'm going to bring urgency and results back to City Hall.
