@ACSCAN After surviving a second bout with brain cancer in '02 & being given just 3-5 yrs to live, Russ continued advocating for decades.
As one of @ACSCAN ’s first volunteers in '01, he helped build Arizona’s advocacy network & worked with lawmakers to advance policies that save lives.
We are very saddened to share that longtime @ACSCAN volunteer Russell Gillard passed away yesterday from stage 4 stomach cancer.
For nearly 30 yrs, Russ dedicated himself to the fight against cancer and to ensuring patients, survivors, and families had a voice in public policy.
To quote Maria, “HB2617, would eliminate cost-sharing for high-risk men seeking prostate cancer screening, and SB1165, would ensure medically necessary breast cancer screenings, such as MRIs and follow-up exams, are covered at no cost.” #FightCancer (2/4)
On Thursday, @ACSCANAZ ACT Lead Volunteer, Maria M., was featured in @TucsonStar calling on members of the Arizona Legislature to expand access to cancer screenings in our state. 🧵(1/4)
Thank you to every volunteer who attended #AZCAD26 last week to advocate on behalf of cancer patients, survivors, and their families.
Gratitude also to the many different organizations that participated in our Partner Walkway. #AZCancerActionDay (2/3)
Thank you to members of the Arizona Legislature for meeting with @ACSCANAZ volunteers during #AZCancerActionDay last Thursday to hear our stories and policy priorities.
Together we can #FightCancer#AZCAD26 (1/3)
