I rarely post on the Book of Faces, just keep eyeballs on folk.
Discord... when's the last time I actually used that? For a game session I think.
Mastodon? Too much inter-instance drama there for now.
South Korea's opposition-led parliament impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, suspending him from official duties over his short-lived attempt to impose martial law. Under the constitution, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo becomes acting president https://t.co/ukb8MDX2C7
Sure a CEO had family, but so did the thousands of families who were denied coverage.
(UnitedHealthcare denies 32% of in-network claims, twice the industry average & has used an allegedly faulty AI algorithm to assess claims and deny care for seriously ill patients.)
Yet many of them benefit from the very programs they condemn or have (sometimes illegal) immigrants parents or grandparents. Gotta pull that ladder up behind them!
Unfortunately, the only way they may change their minds is if it directly negatively impacts them.
A significant number of people worship at the feet of billionaires. They are single issue focused and lack compassion and empathy for anyone different from themselves. They preach love then turn around and smite thy neighbor.
Miscarriages due to restrictive anti-abortion laws, who cares? School shootings, business as usual. Marital rape, no such thing. Programs to support women, children and families, once the child is born it's not my concern.
"This election is not a joke or a chance to lodge a protest vote. If you abstain or vote 3rd party and Trump wins, the blood of Palestinians, Ukrainians, queer, PoC, women... will be on your hands. No amount of moral high ground will wash it off."
Personal experience this election season is text and phone spam is all from GOP organizations. Reply to one number to STOP, which should prevent further messages, & report it as spam, but get another message for the same candidate from a new number.
"From 2019 to 2022, the rate of maternal mortality cases in Texas rose by 56%, compared with just 11% nationwide during the same time period..."
Just... wow.
To all 1st, 2nd & 3rd generation immigrants, just remember that he called you, your children, siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and/or grandparents, less than human.
"I said, 'No, they're not humans, they're not humans, they're animals.' "
Remember that people thought he was a joke, it was just a publicity stunt, he'd never win, he didn't have enough support. Remember that while he normalized publicly expressing hatred and violence, there are still quiet supporters out there. Don't assume anything. Vote!
โListen to the people who are talking about how to fix what's wrong, not the ones who just work people into a snit over the problems. Listen to the people who have ideas about how to fix things, not the ones who just blame others.โ โ Molly Ivins
I quite dislike "Y viral recipes that are making people run to the store to buy [thing]" or "Y viral recipe that's causing a shortage of [thing]" clickbait. Majority of the time it's just a mildly interesting twist on a common recipe or old or foreign recipe someone discovered.
Guy on Reddit posted about @NASA's Starliner hours before the news, adding: "My dad is a muckity muck in safety at the Cape that was part of the team that snuck a camera on the SRB."
Majority of the discussion is now whether his dad can get into trouble.

Reminds me of another comment I saw. (Paraphrased): "One side wants your kids to go to school and be fed. The other side wants to put them to work in slaughterhouses."
Still haven't found the motivation to settle down elsewhere. Although many moved to Mastodon, finding a good instance that won't implode due to its own drama & connecting to everyone just feels like... work.
My motivation to Tweet as I used to is rather low, which is a little saddening, as there were good times. There's still good folk around, and good info if one is careful where one looks, but the general Ick factor has actually exceeded what I once felt for the Book of Faces.
When revisiting social media, there are some who never seem to have overcome their horribleness. Maybe appearances are deceiving, as the internet is only a small glimpse into who they are.
...
Or maybe horrible is just their default setting.
When people blame the older generation for all problems, as if everything will immediately be better once they're gone, I roll my eyes. Y'all are naive. Plenty of shitty people under 30. Plenty of kids grow up in petri dishes of hate & become just like this fellow.
