Come join us – Six new research positions open in macroecology and related fields
I’m very happy to announce the opening of no less than six research positions at the Villum Center for Global Mountain Biodiversity, a research center of excellence housed within Center for Macroecology, Evolution and Climate (CMEC), Globe Institute, Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen.
The six positions concern the broader scientific fields of macroecology, ornithology, and genomics, including 1 fixed-term position as Assistant Professor, 4 Postdoc positions, and 1 position as Bioinformatician.
Our overall focus is to enhance our understanding of the long-standing question of how mountains contribute to shaping the diversity and distribution of life on Earth, particularly the extraordinary biodiversity of tropical mountains.
Our research combines natural history knowledge and field work with an assemblage of genomic data and databases of species distributions and traits rigorously assembled from primary sources. We work with novel macroecological process-based and null models, powerful bioinformatics tools, and robust statistics to enable a holistic approach for addressing fundamental questions about the distribution and magnitude of life on Earth.
The right candidates will be a part of an international team comprised of 20 scientific staff, technicians, and students, where teamwork and close collaboration are highly prioritized —both within the Center and across our global research network.
Read more about each of the positions and the application process at https://t.co/tuUirQnKmj
The application deadline for all six positions is 31 of July 2025.
The six positions:
Assistant Professor in Macroecology (fixed-term 3 years)
Postdoc in Global Macrecology (2.5 years)
Postdoc in Ornithology (2.5 years)
Postdoc in Population Genomics (2.5 years)
Postdoc in Movement Macroecology (2 years)
Bioinformatician (Staff Scientist AC) (2.5 years)

Also posted to #evol2025 app social feed, but in case anyone's looking on here, I'd like to give away a copy of my book to a non-U.S./Canada grad student, since I know it can be harder to get outside N.A. Respond here or on the app want it! I'll pick the recipient at random. 🎲

1/ 🧵 No, you do not always Need Single-Cell RNA-seq
Single-cell RNA-seq is popular and powerful, but it's not always the best choice. Here's why you should think carefully before diving in.
1️⃣ 🌍 Fresh out in #Science! The Asian tropics are among the most biodiverse places on Earth, but where does all that diversity come from? 🤔🔍 We used 🌴 phylogenomics and 🦴 new fossils to unravel the roles of different regions in generating and distributing species! #Evolution
