@Waldorfmanhaha @KirkWilson If you mean that someone would by their own free will wish to believe and God prevents them, that is 100% not a confessional reformed belief. We have a sinful nature, and thus freely choose to reject the Gospel apart from God's grace which changes our nature.

@Waldorfmanhaha @KirkWilson To repeat, the reason God may harden someone (i.e., lifts His restraint on their sin) is to accomplish His purposes, which will vary from person to person: e.g. hardening Pharaoh so that he doesn't release the Israelites, leading to God's making His power known via the 10 plagues

@Waldorfmanhaha @KirkWilson Are you saying that unbelievers who sin more will go somewhere different than unbelievers who sin less? Sinning more or less isn't going to change your fate if you're an unbeliever. Instead, all who repent and believe will be saved; no one is going to hell no matter what.

They are NOT as sinful as they could be: we can desire to hate, or desire to murder; one or many

@Waldorfmanhaha @KirkWilson I assume you see moral gradations; murdering is worse than insulting. Both are sinful and warrant the same ultimate penalty, but one is clearly more sinful than the other. Hardening = lifting the restraint on the evil already present in the human heart, leading to greater sin

@Waldorfmanhaha @KirkWilson The hardening was simply him going deeper into sin. E.g. so instead of mistreating someone, you murder them. For Pharaoh, God's purpose was the 10 plagues, to show His power, so He hardened Pharaoh's heart to not relent. He just lifted restraints on the darkness already there.

@ehenes The irony is @redeemed_zoomer promotes Karl Barth, who has undeniably influenced lots of heterodoxy in the church after him, and also had a much less unimpeachable personal life compared with Machen. I also don't think Machen would be on board with all the separations since OPC.

@ehenes What's with the "practically worshipped?" I guarantee you 1/2 my OPC congregation has never heard of J Gresham Machen. No one is saying he's perfect (although ...), but simply that he's a top-tier scholar (undeniable), and not a coward schismatic.
