CATS: as jaw-droppingly terrible as the reviews say. But in the midst of so many weird, weird decisions, the actors are magnificent and wholly commit to the nonsense that’s asked of them. A triumph of green screen imagination
Don’t normally do political subjects but I’m right behind the extinction rebellion protests. This is a serious attempt to get the world to wake up to the climate emergency with an intellectually-compelling argument for non violent direct action. https://t.co/iTeVgChxvP
THE SISTERS BROTHERS: disappointing film from the usually interesting Jacques Audiard. Good performances all round, especially Riz Ahmed whose gentle goodness credibly changes the mind of Jake Gyllenhal's bounty-hunter, but structurally messy and unsatisfying #fromstagetoscreen
TRUE DETECTIVE 1#1: I know I'm coming to this way way late but OMG Matthew McConaughey is brilliant. And hats off to Woody too for being unshowy. Amazingly I believe this pair of stupidly handsome movie stars as regular cops with messy foibles and inadequacies #fromstagetoscreen
THIS TIME: Steve Coogan absolutely at the top of his game. Not just his Alan Partridge but the wonderful casting and pitch-perfect performances from the cameos, superb work by Susanna fielding and sublime editing
FLEABAG #2,1: fabulous twisty storytelling with top quality performances including wonderful work by Olivia Colman, unusually playing in control and unlikeable
FOLLIES: best sondheim production I’ve ever seen. Direction, design, performances universally brilliant, especially Janie Dee whose voice, both speaking and singing, radiates pathos, self-loathing cynicism #fromstagetoscreen
SON OF SAUL: Available on iplayer for another three weeks or so. Harrowing it may be, but it's a staggeringly good film with an extraordinary central performance by Geza Rohrig
Interesting interview with Steve Coogan https://t.co/cWjudVwcvy including the sage advice "do interesting work and don't be a c**t" which just about sums up life
MOONLIGHT: wonderful film, full of complexity, compassion and superb performances, especially mahershala ali proving once again there's little as moving as a bad guy doing something good. Amazing to think La-la-land nearly stole its best film oscar
#Bodyguard: Is it just me or was ep 4 much less interesting without @Misskeeleyhawes? Haven't seen ep 5 yet so maybe it picks up again but it's noticeably less interesting without her, especially with @_richardmadden sidelined #fromstagetoscreen
@BLAKKKLANSMAN: Spike Lee's polemic is important and valuable but subtlety and character development aren't his thing. John David Washington and Adam Driver do good work with a clumsy script but crass baddie performances let it down as a film #fromstagetoscreen
THE SPLIT:as soon as Nicola walker appeared in her pristine white jacket I knew this show was going to waste a great cast in over-designed, implausible nonsense #fromstagetoscreen
THE WRITER: terrific impassioned writing about theatre and writing. Mostly really well directed, designed and acted too, especially Lara Rossi. Links to brilliant Guardian analysis of #metoo https://t.co/IIVXDo9gea #fromstagetoscreen
THE ENCOUNTER: this show is extraordinary. Visionary in conception, gripping storytelling, incredible technical mastery of equipment, body and voice. Wise, humble and with huge heart. Simon mcburney is probably the country's greatest exponent of theatre #fromstagetoscreen
Honoured to be back at @E15actingschool again, with an impressive MA course class. Reminded how good the @billbrit_screen#fromstagetoscreen book is - recommended to all new actors for screen - some great ideas for exercises on working with the camera.
I now have a 2nd twitter account @billbritten focused on broader communication and leadership skills. It's primarily aimed at business people but relevant also to actors and anyone interested in influencing other people
