@engineers_feed If the plane is essentially standing still (remains in the same place) on the conveyor as the belt moves, despite thrust from the engines, there is no increased airflow over/under the wings, thus no lift. Therefore it won’t take off.

@grantshapps Battery electric cars?: Heavy. High carbon footprint. Use up precious metals. Unsustainable long term? Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles seem the way forward. 14 or so filling stations in the UK! Put resources in to that infrastructure for the long term.
