@HSVSphere@bcantrill Generally not a fan of tech talks but all of Cantrill’s that I’ve watched have been worth the time. I even have one as my pinned tweet
@HSVSphere It's a shame that "performance" is taken to mean "raw speed" instead of what should be the correct definition: "doing the correct thing as fast as possible". Nothing "performant" about software that isn't performing as it should
@doomslide@tszzl Me too. Maybe the mixed messaging is simply a result of human ego and enjoying being "in the know" coinciding with their earnest fears about things. It's tiring to read all the time in any case.
@doomslide I don't understand it at all and I don't think it's deliberate. @tszzl does the same thing (not to pick on him in particular). If it's serious then be serious about it. If it's not, stop riling people up for no reason telling them they're going to die, be poor forever, etc.
@doomslide A lot of them present themselves in this weirdly ambivalent way: pontificating about how Serious this all is (but in lowercase); this technology is super duper dangerous (but I'll continue to work on it and enrich myself)
@threepointone It is baffling to the point that I have to believe the people talking this way are not being sincere. Or they have just never had an emotionally resonant experience with any piece of art ever...
@GeoffreyHuntley I am still quite new to PBT and I’m wondering if it’s “a thing” to worry about the oracle being correct. Do we just rely on it being simpler and easier to reason about? Do people more formally “verify” the oracle in cases where verifying the real implementation isn’t practical?
For anyone who prefers to read Rust over Python, or wants the explanation "dumbed down" a bit, I've created a little prototype here: https://t.co/PXekSn9uGF
As well as the concept itself, the implementation details of property-based testing frameworks are really cool! Here is a paper by @DRMacIver and @afd_icl showing a reduction technique that basically amounts to manipulating bits to reduce test-cases: https://t.co/a6DCemYJp4
