🧵 🥬 Lettuce begin! Super excited to share our new manuscript on contrasting patterns of evolution in sensor and helper NLRs in the NRC network! Tune in for some plant immunology and molecular evolution… 🌱🧬💻 (1/14)

Neurospora crassa as a model system for fungal immunity! 🍄🦠New pre-print and my first, first author paper from the @kseniakrasileva lab where I dissect N.crassa’s interaction with Pseudomonas https://t.co/YF18oUp8nb (A 🧵)
I'm absolutely delighted to see this online 😍! Check out the peer-reviewed version of our preprint on the structure of resting state autoinhibited NRC2. Turns out, some helper NLRs can form autoinhibited resting state homodimers 🤯 1/8

Very happy to share our research into the role of DNA methyltransferase 1-1 (MET1-1) in wheat 🌾🧬
This work was led by myself, Sam Burrows and @PhilippaBorrill, with vital contributions from Joe Crudgington, Giorgia di Santolo, @simmojsimmo and @CatmaCator

Very excited to share our latest preprint about coevolutionary dynamics between NLRs and their inhibitor!

Excited to share the updated version of our manuscript on the evolution and function of plant immune receptor domains. A great collaboration with @KamounLab@dromius and Joe Walker lab @UniversityofIl. 🧵 from 1st author @Khongsam_Chia coming tomorrow. https://t.co/CphjBvkrGc
NLR papers celebration 🍾 🥂
First, Daniel @daniel_luedke et al. showed that NLRs can form root-specific networks that operate against parasitic nematodes 🪱
We are super happy to share with you the Cryo-EM structure of a plant helper NLR, NRC2, in its resting state. We’ve discovered that NLRs can exist as dimers before activation! 🤯

Our review about non-vascular plant-pathogen interactions is now online in Current Opinion in Plant Biology! We discuss the recent findings on the EvoMPMI from bryophyte systems, which highlight the evolution and diversity of the plant immune system.

@KamounLab@SusanSchlimpert@JohnInnesCentre Thank Sophien for the kind words (and help!), it was really fun to share some of the stuff we've been working on over the last couple of years! 🦈
Happy birthday Sir David Hopwood! He is an Emeritus Fellow at @JohnInnesCentre, Norwich and an Emeritus Professor at @uniofeastanglia. He has been a member of the Microbiology Society since 1955 and was President of the Microbiology Society 2000–2003.
