Our great tit project is almost at its conclusion. We're excited to be completing analysis and revealing results so over the next few weeks we'll be introducing our team and their work. #irishgreattitteam
NEW PAPER! Today my first PhD chapter is out in @AnimalEcology We looked at how personality and inhibitory control influenced foraging flexibility in great tits. @uccBEES @birdcognition Find the paper here: https://t.co/9zMb41Hf7N THREAD 1/6
Today (Friday 16th) at @asab_easter2021 I'll be presenting my poster on inhibitory control and diet of adult and nestling great tits. 6pm in the Cognition room.
Come and find out how cognition links to diet in everyone's favourite passerine ๐#ASAB_Easter2021
*new paper* Does motivation and personality influence sequential innovative problem-solving? We show consistent individual differences in problem-solving performance in captive bred great tits. @GabsDavidson@KvanOers@birdcognition @uccBEES @niooknaw

Two of our group Shane @ShaneE_Somers and Jenny @JayCee_161 are presenting at the Irish Ecology and Evolution Conference @irish_ecology over the next two days. They'll be talking about the gut microbiome and DNA metabarcoding of the diet of great tits. Join us if you can!
I'm very excited to share my first empirical paper on the gut #microbiome published in @SciReports https://t.co/VYCf8IuTwD where we manipulated the gut microbiota to test its effect on behaviour in wild great tits. ๐งตโฌ๏ธThis fab action shot photo is courtesy of @Jamesoneillii
A decent day finally meant mist nets open in the garden in W Cork for #birdringing! Lots caught, including this fab recovery of a @birdcognition @uccBEES study great tit ringed in 2017 about 38km to the east!
And finished off with a redwing roost catch ๐
Latest preprint is up! No evidence for cross-contextual consistency in spatial learning and behavioural flexibility in a passerine: https://t.co/oN5u5lpzNp

We are really grateful to Sam @SamBayley2 for his last two years helping on our project. We wouldn't have the nest data from the ~350 nest boxes in the 12 field sites in West Cork without his help. We'll use this breeding information in our future work. We wish Sam all the best.
Owenahincha this morning - 85 birds of 15 species including a Teal, Kingfisher, 2 Redwing (Icelandic and Scandinavian), Blackcap, Stonechat and 11 Chiffchaff (inc 1 Siberian) @tulkkina@JayCee_161@AlanMc_23@_BTO@BirdWatchIE

Wow! Check out where will be underwater with the sea level rise in 30 years time.... My current @uccBEES office will be part of the River Lee! @BioDataCentre@SxBRC@UCC@BirdWatchIE@_BTO https://t.co/sColNK9IuW
Doing some audio analysis from some of the @birdcognition nest boxes and realised that Chaffinch contact call looks like an artist version of trees in a snow storm
WOOOOHOOOO!! The Irish woodcock project is a-go for the winter! We set nets for snipe in a field at my home in West Cork. Didn't get snipe, but it was so special to catch the first #woodcock of the season, ringed by @JayCee_161 ๐
Decent first winter ringing session at Ballinphelic for the year with 60 birds of 12 species inc a late moulting adult Bullfinch. Then an attempt at Snipe which ended with the first Woodcock of the season @tulkkina@JayCee_161@Jamesoneillii@AlanMc_23@BirdWatchIE@_BTO
