Please explain why Alberta should fund billion dollar private industry over healthcare? If people get to bitch and complain about their tax dollars being used for education when they don't have kids, why do I have to pay for an arena when I hate hockey culture?
Hey, @JasonCoppingAB. Hey, @ABDanielleSmith! You should come hang with us at the UAH ED! See how burned out we are, see how hopeless everyone feels, come see the REAL SHIT, then give us REAL HELP. We're dying. But more importantly, so are our patients.
I want to tell you about how amazing my daughter's pediatrician is.
We had an appointment today and she was running 30 mins behind. I know these things happen and it doesn't bother me. She came in, apologizing for her delays and said she had to send a patient to emerg.
@gilmcgowan I have no idea what you're talking about! As an RN with >10 years experience who has worked in an ED throughout the entire pandemic, I felt very valued with the 1% COVID pay we got for 1 year after 7 years of salary freeze.
@Bateson_AB You're hiring more contract nurses. That's not a long term solution. ICU is NOT where more capacity is needed. We need capacity in med/surg beds. Ppl can't come out of ICU b/c no beds. Can't leave ED b/c no beds. NO ONE to staff empty beds. Dangerous staffing levels.
Beds and ambulances require staff - that is the shortage.
Because of the UCP - because they attacked healthcare professionals in a pandemic, because they chose to push the system to the brink of collapse - repeatedly.
The fix is a new government. #ableg
💯 The feeling of imminent collapse is palpable. Acuity is high. Morale is low. Staffing is scary. Our unit saw mandatory OT for the first time last week.
@GlobalEdmonton @shazmamithani As always, you hit the nail on the head - except I've seen waits to be triaged over 2 hours. Over an hour is baseline during the day.
@mandajbr @shazmamithani And further to that, it's not just about being able to obtain care, but the quality of that care. Do you really want brand new nurses who've had no mentorship taking care of your critically ill family member? That's why retention is important.
@mgauthier223 @DrewJohns13 @shazmamithani @jkenney@JasonCoppingAB@AHS_media There was a time, not so long ago, when having children wait 3 hours was a bad day. Now it's a really good day.
@mandajbr @shazmamithani We need RETENTION initiatives. A big part of the problem is sick time from burned out, exhausted staff who feel completely unvalued by their employer, patients, and government. It is not fun being yelled at daily for systemic issues that you have no power over.
PEOPLE. When an ambulance with lights and sirens is coming up behind you,
1. PULL OVER AND STOP.
If you're in the oncoming lane, PULL OVER AND STOP.
If you have a green light, PULL OVER AND STOP.
If you are a pedestrian, DO NOT CROSS THE ROAD.
What if it was YOU in there??
