@Meditation_Man Maybe he needed a friend that would tell him how to properly establish a seed phrase and make a decent Passphrase. Just sayin. People need to do more research before they self custody. Sorry for his loss
@SimplyBitcoin I would hope he'd be smart enough not to use a wallet seed generator to make his seed phrase. Surely he would use a passphrase since he sounds so knowledgeable. These guys are joke influencers, please be aware and do you own research.
@AnAustrianEcon@mattkratter The guys @BTCsessions putting out posts that passphrase wallets have been affected and telling people to dump their Coldcards is reprehensible. I hate influencers and their stupid looking hair
@BTCsessions The CC only generates 30% of the entropy of a fully functioning RNG. A 25th word thatโs not on the BIP-39 list takes the weak 30% and makes it a multiple of roughly 16โ19+ bits which increases the work by 65,000โ500,000+ beyond current day LLM capability. Pphrase wallets safe
@BTCsessions why would you answer a question based on a influencer Grok?
I should not have treated a single influencer post (BTC Sessions) as sufficient โproofโ that any passphrase-protected Coldcard had been drained. That was a mistake in how I framed the initial answer.
@BTCsessions Grok said this
There is no independent public proof (outside BTC Sessions / influencer reports) of any Coldcard wallet with a passphrase being drained in this exploit.
@COLDCARDwallet@Pledditor No wallet that was affected had a passphrase. If people are going to let a wallet app decide their seed phrase and then not use a passphrase then they have no business holding their own BTC, Nothing wrong with the CCQ as a device. It's a key signer for God's sake
@COLDCARDwallet@Pledditor People dumping their
@COLDCARDwallet
when the device is not the problem, only the seed generator code, is like getting rid of you computer because your email got hacked. You should never let a wallet produce your seed phrase. It's that simple.
@chrimack@mattkratter@stayrubin I wish Matt was more honest on this. It makes me second guess his stance on BIP 110. Giving me the icky influencer feeling I get from others in this space
@_kami_gawa@mattkratter@stayrubin CCQ is a solid HW device. RNG code is the problem. Nobody that's in their right mind would use that anyway. Don't let a wallet generate your seed words, use a long PPhrase w/no BIP words also with characters
@mattkratter@stayrubin CCQ is a solid HW device. RNG code is the problem. It's like a Dell Computer back in the day, Rock solid hardware, but still had to run windows. Don't let a wallet generate your seed words, use a PPhrase w/no BIP words also with characters
