@emollick Somethings up with Claude though. Opus is horrendous. Fable was pretty good but not paying for it. Chat jumped ahead with Sol. But I think Anthropic will make good
@chamath AI offers reccos and seem confident in a single recco. But it’s often the wrong choice. I’ve seen people w/o domain expertise lean on AI and make worse decisions. And be less productive. For the domain expert, more productive. Too early to tell if AI will help the non expert
I feel a lot of people are using AI tools the way you'd use a car if you didn't know that you can take your foot off the gas.
People reporting "well its immensely useful, but gee its stressful to go 110mph to the store, around all those pedestrians"
It should be pretty obvious at this point that AI is a "force multiplier" not a "labor substitute".
It helps experts be better at things they are already good at. It doesn't let beginners match experts.
If you can't write, anything you write with AI will be unmitigated slop.
If you aren't a software engineer, anything you vibecode with AI will have security holes and won't be able to scale past a toy demo.
If you blindly trust AI to deliver on a research task without knowing the subject matter, you won't be able to fact-check it.
There's this weird misconception of AI as something that completely levels the playing field. I don't see it that way at all. There are mathematicians deriving novel lemmas with off-the-shelf models. Normal people can't do that.
AI is a tool that makes experts better. It doesn't make everyone into an expert.
@lennysan I’m finding this mental exhaustion with ideas and words too. I’m in a startup where people are using ai to create documentation and resources very quickly. But it’s too much to absorb. An internal playbook that previously would have taken a week is created in an hour.

@chrislakin Read some of your articles. Now I instinctively think there’s a reason why people do/have what they don’t want. Social anxiety, overeat, scroll, porn, etc. Helps create compassion and a better understanding of their behavior. Mine too
AI-native workers produce too much text. I check Slack only to see massive 500 word treaties that took people 5 mins to prompt and review. Normally, would have taken an hour to write.
I use AI too but am aware of the cognitive load the text output can have on people.
One of the most positive changes from AI: I feel more informed as a consumer than I ever have
Shopping is SO much better. The best products are easier to find, and marketing is easier to debunk
I think AI will ultimately force more companies to compete on product quality
@orenmeetsworld Screen time as long as it’s productive. I will say my pre teen son would be poor at managing screen time. Easily 2 hours without taking a break. I implemented 10 minute breaks every 50 mins. He’d also record the breaks
