Some news! PROOF has been acquired by Yuga Labs.
We are excited to join forces with a company that champions art, culture, and community on the blockchain.
For more information, see the official Yuga News blog: https://t.co/pjy8OM3aK7
We celebrated the anniversary of our Why Web3 LDN dinner series last night.
1 year of bringing web3 founders, creatives and investors together with my irreplacable cohost @blockchain_what
What’s next? A NYC edition 🗽Comment if you’re in the big 🍏 and want to join.
NFTs are “mostly” dead because:
1. Blur. Sure people say you can’t blame an exchange but it commoditized NFTs as FTs
2. Yuga. Totally deviated from the original formula into a gaming company since they raised too much money (and their games suck. All of them)
There is no real thing as the Ape community as demonstrated by the recent AIPs. Too hard with so many NFTs
3. Proof / Moonbirds. We’re supposed to be the adults in the space and bridging web 2 and 3. If they think Grails is an achievement - you didn’t need to raise millions for any of it. Truly worst execution
4. Azuki. Was supposed to be the come back kid. In reality they are like a kid that you adopt that will steal from you to do drugs and f your life
5. OpenSea. Truly the most tone deaf and idiotic participant that unfortunately is the leader. I hope a Robinhood of exchange without bs incentives come
Overall NFTs fail as 99% are not really non fungible. People list on floor or close to sell and they are happy to just pick another one hopefully cheaper.
My web3 bestie @blockchain_what and I have been hosting monthly dinners in London for almost a year.
Our mission: bring the web3 creative x tech world closer together (think Devcon meets Art Basel).
The format: 13 handpicked guests at a seated dinner
We hosted another wonderful web3 dinner in London. Good conversations, new and old friends. 🫶 to my dinner cofounder @blockchain_what and @camillionaire_m & @evgeth for bringing some fantastic new faces to the group.
Once you stop thinking of crypto as a speculative money making tech, but instead as a foundation that can change the entire way we own, transfer, and access all of the assets in our lives (from money to houses to loans to gaming to fandom to fashion), then it gets much, much more exciting.
Artists should be given the time & space to focus on their art, and this can be achieved through a strong external support network. I agree with @operator_______: dedication is the biggest source of long term value for a speculative collector
Being dedicated to your art is the best way to “reward” your collectors if you look at collecting from an investment perspective. The idea of utility and collector-pleasing with perks is ridiculous and only makes sense if your dedication to your craft and art itself is weak.
"Art you can experience like the Random International Living room and Bright Moment's boreta audio visual performance had more impact on me and those I viewed alongside than the stuff at Basel/the fairs. It’s going to be hard for canvas to compete" - @ACthecollector
