I came to model neurons, ride bikes, and chew gum. And I'm all out of gum.

Been working on sonic/visualisation of recorded neuron data. This is the intense burst of an oxytocin neuron triggering milk ejection. @GarethLeng @EoloSon @OxyPressinGuy #soundon#sciart
Whenever I post about climate, skeptical folks inevitable respond with this graph. So I decided to do something radical: actually read the underling scientific paper and ask the authors.
As it turns out, it actually says the opposite of what skeptics claim.
Apropos of never ending discussions about whether ANNs are "good" models of the nervous system, here is a slide I present to masters students showing a network that is found in motor control circuits *across phyla* (that's pretty ubiquitous!) I ask them to guess what it does...
@CASporleder@ZacGoldsmith@DavidLammy From my understanding the problem is that 'carbon counting' is used to find ever more ways to supposedly offset rather than actually reduce.
@edtiss One of the most awful bits I know, that has almost brought me down, is https://t.co/lvtXoWHuy8, the junction on the route towards Haymarket from Princes St crossing Torphican St. Very dangerous potholes, that I posted to @edinhelp repeatedly years ago, with no result.
Whilst we're discussing auto-obesity, never overestimate the sheer stupidity and selfishness of vehicles like this within a city.
2.6 tonnes transporting 1 x 80kg person most of the time, then statistically remaining parked for the other 95% of its life.
Tax them to oblivion
@blairanderson35 Excellent work, though I'm shocked to see that a bike lane that is clearly not finished yet and has cones and fencing still in place is not full of bikes!
@MissSybilVane It's ok and normal for it to be very very hard. There's no great answer, just practical things to distract, and somewhere nice outside. Friends who've been through it will be helpful. All the wisdom isn't a match for shared experience in grief.
