CBI registers case against US based Christian missionary group, The Timothy Initiative, Jonathan Rajan, Overall Operation incharge of TTI in India, Ajit Varghese Mathai, Financial Head of TTI in India and others for allegedly using “foreign funds to the tune of 92.55 crore between November 2025 to April 2026 for missionary activities” in violation of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.

CBI alleges that the accused withdrew cash from various ATMs across the country using foreign debit cards issued by Truist Bank of USA.

CBI has registered the FIR based on the information shared by ED.

ED’s investigation has allegedly revealed that over 1,000 such foreign debt cards have been distributed in India over the past few years and foreign funds are being withdrawn using these cards across various ATMs and the said funds are being used for “training, preaching, and brainwashing of poor people leading to left wing extremism, among others.”

ED further alleges that TTI, USA indulged in destruction of evidence by deleting data on its servers using remote access during the searches.

இன்று காலை சென்னை சிந்தாதிரிப்பேட்டையில் உள்ள தாமோதரன் பிரகாஷ் அவர்களின் இல்லத்திற்கு வந்த காவல்துறையினர் அவரை கைது செய்து ஆதம்பாக்கம் காவல் நிலையத்தில் வைத்துள்ளனர்.

கைது தொடர்பாக காவல்துறை சார்பாக வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிக்கையில், கடந்த ஜனவரி மாதம் ஒரு யூடியூப் சேனலில் பெண் யூட்யூபர் ஒருவர் குறித்து தாமோதரன் பிரகாஷ் தெரிவித்த அவதூறான கருத்துக்களுக்காக அவர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளதாக தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

அதிகார வர்க்கத்தின் தவறுகளை யாருக்கும் அஞ்சாமல் தைரியமாக சுட்டிக்காட்டி விமர்சித்து வரும் தாமோதரன் பிரகாஷ், சுமார் 8 மாதங்களுக்கு முன் யூட்யூபில் பேசியதற்காக எந்த வித முன் விசாணையுமின்றி தற்போது கைது செய்யப்பட்டிருப்பது பல்வேறு கேள்விகளை எழுப்புகிறது.

தவறுகளை சுட்டிக்காட்டும் பத்திரிகையாளர்களை அச்சுறுத்தும் வகையில் இதுபோன்ற நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளதா என்றும் எண்ணத் தோன்றுகிறது.

தாமோதரன் பிரகாஷ் மீது வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள குற்றச்சாட்டில் சட்டப்பூர்வமாக நடவடிக்கை எடுப்பதில் எந்த மாற்றுக்கருத்தும் இல்லை. ஆனால், தொடர்புடைய நபரிடம் சட்டப்பூர்வமாக விளக்கம் கேட்காமல், எந்தவித விசாரணையும் நடத்தாமல் நேரடியாக மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ள கைது நடவடிக்கையை சென்னை பத்திரிகையாளர் மன்றம் வன்மையாக கண்டிக்கிறது.

கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள மூத்த பத்திரிகையாளர் தாமோதரன் பிரகாஷ் உடனடியாக விடுதலை செய்யப்பட வேண்டும் என்றும் சென்னை பத்திரிகையாளர் மன்றம் தமிழக அரசை வலியுறுத்துகிறது.

. @ptrmadurai makes sweeping comments about media, calls journalists including me dumb. It was during DMK time where at least Rs 5000 crores worth projects were tendered out without a financial sanction in @chennaicorp and @chennai_Highway . @ptrmadurai served as the finance minister during 2021 May to 2023 May.

As a former finance minister, I hope he can answer to the people on how govt departments executed these projects without a financial sanction from the state finance department? Can projects be tendered out without placing them in grants and getting administration and financial sanction?

@chennaicorp has released an offiical statement saying at least Rs 1900 crore worth projects were executed without a financial sanction, which means, they were tendered out without the concurrence of finance department. They have said another Rs 1500 crore worth projects are there which have been tendered that way, and this raises the overall outstanding dues to Rs 3500. Dues for financially unapproved projects.

Recently Greater Chennai Contractors Association has released a newspaper ad stating the they have a massive outstanding due which haven’t been paid to them.

Adding more on this, highways minister Aadhav Arjuna further had moved a resolution in assembly stating Rs 2000 crore worth projects were tendered without financial sanction and keeping them in demands for grants.

Does this amount to a major financial mismanagement? Illegality? Causing loss to exchequer and does it raise questions on whether the projects were tendered out just for kickbacks? As contractors themselves have come out in open now that they’ve not been paid, who will answer them?
