At BlueYard we invest in only two kinds of technologies: those that move us towards utopia, and those that hold the line against oblivion

We invited 100 founders and investors to a gathering in the Alps. In their room, they found a newspaper dated September 16, 2036: some headlines read exactly as expected. Others seemed impossible, yet somehow they had happened.

We hiked between mountain debate camps, pressure-testing today's consensus beliefs, then ran policy creation / simulation sessions to come up with strategies that competing futures would demand. This was, The Counterfactual.

Thank you to our co-hosts @hanna_haya, @AndrejHenkler and Fadwa Ouardani (Leblon Capital), and to everyone who participated.

🍻 A Vintage double feature at @bitsandpretzels 🥨

Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of joining an incredible gathering of Europe’s venture and technology community in Munich.

Leyla Holterud, Partner and Head of our London office, joined Michael Wax, GP at @blueyard, a long-time portfolio fund of Vintage, for a fireside unpacking a real fund selection decision, from the first meeting and what mattered in diligence to how the relationship has developed since. Leyla also hosted a roundtable on VC secondaries.

Ilan Leiferman, Partner and Chief Value Officer, joined Patrick Dreisch (@AnthropicAI) and Nathan Gruber (Manex AI) at the CIO Summit for “Building Europe’s Industrial AI Champions,” moderated by Ines Ivoković (COBE). Exploring how Europe can build global Industrial AI leaders, a topic closely connected to Ilan’s work leading Value+, connecting enterprises with startups addressing their business challenges.

Two conversations reflecting the connected perspective we bring across venture managers, founders and enterprises.

The internet is up for grabs. AI is rewriting how we search & use software, feeds are flooded with synthetic junk, & platform power is harder to ignore.

Builders & investors watching it rearrange: join us, @buildexante @zweinberg in NYC. 9/29 at 6:30pm. https://t.co/RYSbPomCyP

Remote environments should be as fast as your local setup, trustworthy due to isolation and easy to control. Boxd is building for this future. Proud to back this team for their pre-seed; more great things to come. https://t.co/Ws6ibsO6d3

We handed 100 people a newspaper from 2036 and locked them on a mountain for two days.

This is The Counterfactual.

The premise is simple and uncomfortable: most of what you believe about the next decade is wrong. You just don't know which parts.
So we wrote the newspaper of September 16, 2036. Some headlines you'd expect. Others look impossible. In that world, they happened anyway.
Then we made founders, investors, and policymakers argue about it while
Hiking.

Basecamp: The Consensus. The most dangerous beliefs everyone in the room shares. Camp Alpha: The Divergence. How the impossible actually unfolds.

Camp Beta: The Wager. What you'd start doing today if it's real.

Summit: The Great Re-Pricing. The dislocations you can actually trade.

Between camps: rotating small groups, no hiding, every assumption pressure-tested on the trail.

Final morning: the counterfactual became output. Policies. Tactics. Capital allocation. Now feeding competing simulations of the future.

Consensus is already priced. Every asymmetric return in markets, in policy, in company building lives in the future nobody is pricing in.
Comfortable beliefs are expensive. We spent two days getting rid of a few.

See you at The Counterfactual 2027.

1/ It’s time to share more about what we’ve been working on: @common_fabric is a social computing lab building a medium for software that revolves around people, not apps. https://t.co/BTb9BeoKGE

1/ We raised €2M pre-seed to kill localhost.
Agents broke the laptop dev environment. Here is why👇

[chad fowler @chadfowler]

This is the kind of thing that gets built in the dead of crypto winter and quietly changes what’s possible in the next cycle.

Infrastructure compounds, and future apps and use cases thrive as a result.

AnyLink is now flight-proven on orbit and available on Apex's mass-manufactured spacecraft buses. We backed the team at seed to master the RF domain with open, modular software. This is that trajectory, and then some.

[AnySignal @AnySignal_Space]

AnySignal To Deliver End-To-End Communications for Apex Missions, Building on Flight-Proven Hardware

Pairing AnySignal's AnyLink network and hybrid ground segment with Apex's production buses means a customer can design their mission as a single architecture, with one platform provider, from first concept through on-orbit operations.

"Apex has been an important partner as we demonstrate the operability and value of AnyLink on orbit, and this agreement is a natural next step as we continue to expand our work together," said John Malsbury, Founder and CEO of AnySignal.
