While women are leading peace efforts, #WomenPeaceSecurity funding remains low.
With 612M women near conflict zones, we must rethink funding strategies.
Thanks to all the participants at our event for highlighting bold, creative solutions essential for lasting peace.
The 2nd panel highlighted the challenges, innovative practices & lessons learned in promoting gender-responsive DDR processes.
They underscored that women, even in noncombatant roles, face extreme violence in conflict settings & need specific DDR processes to reintegrate.
Great discussion with @khalidlym at @FordhamNYC on the powerful link between IOM’s work and cultural productions like his novel.
We were thrilled to share insights on IOM’s efforts in West & Central Africa.
Thanks to @OIFrancophonie for organizing the event!
Great discussion with 🇩🇰 & @UNICRI on Climate Insecurity & Violent Extremism.
We were pleased to share how IOM uses innovative #data tools to track migration patterns & develop community-based solutions to build stronger, more peaceful communities worldwide

Climate change is a threat multiplier, exacerbating existing vulnerabilities & increasing the risk of conflict and displacement.
IOM is proud to join #COP29 Presidency and partners in launching the Baku Call for Peace, and the Baku Peace and Climate Action Hub.

Last week, the #UNSC Members Informal Expert Group focused on the effects of climate change on peace & security in the West - & Central African region🙏to #UNHCR,@IOMatUN@UNPiper & UNOWAS Climate Advisor for insightful briefings supported by evidence-based data & analysis.
Prolonged drought in 🇿🇲 drives significant migration. As water sources dry up, crops fail, families face severe food & water shortages, leading to economic hardship. @UNmigration's preliminary assessments reveal rural to urban & cross border migration, straining urban resources.
Women must be at the heart of our efforts for peace, security and sustainable development.
That means we must be present at the table, negotiating peace and, in the field, sustaining peace.

I was just in Sudan, one of the hungriest places on Earth, where 25M people face acute hunger. @WFP is on the ground delivering lifesaving aid.
We urgently need:
▪️Safe humanitarian access
▪️Aid flowing through every border crossing
▪️More global support for vulnerable Sudanese
“We are told that wars are becoming smarter: surely so in tactical ways, and in sparing military assets; but surely not so in avoiding indiscriminate civilian casualties and causing destruction and displacement.”
(From my statement to UNHCR’s 75th Executive Committee meeting.)
In #Lebanon, the number of internally displaced has reached over 690,000. IOM is responding quickly to soaring needs distributing relief items, providing health care assistance & protection services.
Yet more is needed & funding is essential to deliver life-saving aid.
Every woman and girl has the right to feel safe everywhere.
Femicide can and must be prevented.
Every country must invest in prevention, enforce laws, and combat impunity.
Let's demand a world free from fear.

Tonight in Damascus I appealed for $324 million to meet the needs of all people fleeing from Lebanon to Syria and the families hosting many of them.
This crisis happens at a time when millions of Syrians live in hardship. Humanitarian and early recovery aid are urgently needed.
I’m at the Syrian/Lebanese border, where a quarter of a million people have crossed since 23 September — when Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon escalated.
The local authorities, @SYRedCrescent, @UN and partners are working 24/7 with UNHCR to ensure a humane, efficient welcome.
“It is really important to confront the institutional, structural & historical root causes of systemic racism.”
— @UNHumanRights chief @volker_turk urges countries to tackle the legacy of colonialism and enslavement, and to deliver reparatory justice. https://t.co/ZqrLJvuAeR
I have just landed in Beirut as Lebanon faces a terrible crisis. Hundreds of thousands of people are left destitute or displaced by Israeli air strikes.
I have come here in solidarity with those affected, to support the humanitarian effort and to ask for more international help.
African knowledge can and should play a key role in #SustainableDevelopment.
Driven by unique perspectives & deep-rooted wisdom, the continent's solutions can set new standards for a green & inclusive future.
