Lessons I learnt from the Tamil Nadu Election results today.

1. It is not necessary to campaign hard every day for weeks together.

2. Booth Agents are not always essential to mobilize voters

3. A powerful manifesto is not required.

4. Political experience is not needed.

5.. Experienced advisors are optional.

6. Meeting the media or taking questions from the press is not necessary. (I thought it was)

7. Money does not always buy votes.

8. Massive ad spends don't get results.

9. Prominent local candidates with clout aren't necessary.

10. Caste is getting to be much less of a factor.

Will these revert in later elections or has a decisive change been made?

On the very first day of 2026, I found myself at a lunch table with a man whose journey has quietly inspired many, including me, Shri K. Annamalai, Senior BJP leader, former Tamil Nadu BJP President, a dear friend, and someone the Gen-Z can truly look up to.

What began as a simple meal soon became a heartfelt conversation spanning life, politics, sports, cinema, and the choices that shape us. Amid shared stories and laughter, I was reminded how rare it is to meet someone so grounded despite having lived such a demanding, disciplined, and courageous life.

I shared with him how inspiring it was to see a police officer step beyond the certainty of the uniform into the unpredictable world of mainstream politics, driven purely by conviction. His book Beyond Khakhi stayed with me, not just as a reader, but as someone who believes that the most meaningful journeys are guided by purpose, not comfort.

My heartfelt thanks to Annamalai and his family for the warmth, the lovely homely food, and the generous time, it made the afternoon truly special. This meeting had been long pending, but perhaps the timing was perfect: the very first day of a new year.

Thank you, dear friend, for your time, your thoughts, and your warmth. Best wishes always. And here’s to finally playing that long-pending cricket match… in case we play.

Annamalai has shared his experience of dealing with a rape cum murder case during his IPS days when he wasn’t even sure if he would enter politics – please watch the clip!

Annamalai just used a diamond to cut another!

In a world driven by sensationalism and TRP ratings, it is the sheer intellect of a leader to exploit the same method to get people's attention and create awareness of the imminent danger to women's safety in Tamil Nadu. You may want to call it a stunt, but this stunt has created awareness about a college student's safety. If Annamalai didn’t do this, the DMK's bread crumb licking media would have prevented this news from gathering momentum!
