@PlomeekSoup "They said low carb is unsustainable"
Your correct tweet aside, for the majority of people it is/was. The wonders of survivorship bias betray the truth that likely many hundreds of thousands haven't been able to make a low-carb/keto diet stick.
@Gearoidmuar @ScepticalDoctor 1/Loss speed is generally dictated by the difference between TDEE and intake. Also, hunger, just like satiation in a fed-state, is an important part of the human experience. A gentle flowing between the two states is something that would likely help many to get reacquainted with
@Gearoidmuar @ScepticalDoctor You started out by saying that the key is to find a plan that allows weight-loss without hunger, but now you seem to be suggesting that there're no real differences in results between those who crash-diet and those that don't.
@MyNutritionSci @ScepticalDoctor Within the context of the discussion i.e Kempner's subjects, we are talking about larger amounts of weight. But perhaps a wider discussion to be had might be about whether muscle-loss is always a bad thing...for everyone.
@NoMeLlamoDieg0 @ScepticalDoctor @ted_ryce@DebugYour_Brain Ultimately, where it matters, I don't think there's any real distinction to be made. Most vegetarians I've come across, either off or online, became vegetarian for ethical reasons i.e they believe(d) that to do so was to save animals lives.
@GoldshteynYulia @ScepticalDoctor Surgery likely fails for the same reason as crash-dieting fails. Unfortunately, in its infinite (lack of wisdom) our bodies defend the status-quo of our weight, even when it's at a level that could very well kill us. Our bodies seem to prefer 'relative' to absolutes.
@Gearoidmuar @ScepticalDoctor Nothing about Eatwell/pyramids is screwing anything up. And ELMM is relative. Unfortunately, people want to lose too much, too quickly and end up backing themselves into a corner of hunger and dietary self-flagellation. Smaller deficits over a longer time is key.
@lunatic_soup@henri_mourant @ScepticalDoctor @ted_ryce 2/Add to the fact that many spiritual ascetic types and also those with eating-disorder/restrictive tendencies flock to the diet, and it all ends up as a shit-show. But the very real issues with veganism should not be laid at the foot of raw-veganism
@lunatic_soup@henri_mourant @ScepticalDoctor @ted_ryce 1/Nothing "fad" about a raw-vegan diet. There are people who have been living this way for decades, with no issues and in great health. It is definitely harder to do right, and unfortunately there are/were people involved who made the whole process more fraught with dangers.
