Over 40 million people are in a CIG1 tornado risk tomorrow!
CIG1 is the lowest level of the SPC's brand new Conditional Intensity Guidance system, which just launched earlier this week. The key word is conditional, it describes how strong tornadoes could be if they develop, not how likely they are to occur.
At CIG1, that means EF2+ tornado potential if storms fire. CIG2 raises the stakes with EF3+ tornado potential. CIG3 is the is the max, reserved for violent, long-track tornadoes and the kinds of outbreaks that end up in the history books.

TXANS Update—1/24/2026: An ERCOT Weather Watch goes into effect today through January 27 due to the winter storm conditions across the ERCOT region, higher electrical demand, and the potential for lower reserves. Grid conditions are expected to be normal. ERCOT will continue monitoring weather conditions closely and utilize all available tools and resources to maintain grid reliability. A Weather Watch is not a call for conservation. Sign up for TXANS emails: https://t.co/32q5lLLBEe
