Like this is an intro to Econ essay prompt: “What’s wrong with this statement?”

If you answer “Nothing” you get zero credit.

Jeb Bush descends from old American families, on both sides. (1647!) He is a "Heritage American," in the eyes of some. But he has no use for any of that nonsense. Any nativism. (He married an immigrant from Mexico.) Listen to him on the subject:

🇺🇸 The Boatlift That Was Bigger Than Dunkirk

At 10:45 a.m. on September 11, 2001, a Coast Guard lieutenant named Mike Day keyed a radio in New York Harbor and said the only sentence that mattered.

“All available boats. This is the United States Coast Guard. Anyone wanting to help with the evacuation of Lower Manhattan, report to Governors Island.”

The boats were already coming.

The bridges were closed. The tunnels were closed. The subways were dead. South of the towers, hundreds of thousands of people had nowhere left to walk. Some jumped into the Hudson. Some stood on seawalls that were never meant to be docks and waited for anything that floated.

Dunkirk took nine days to pull 338,226 Allied soldiers off a beach in 1940.

On 9/11, roughly 800 mariners on about 150 vessels moved as many as 500,000 civilians off Manhattan in about nine hours. Ferries. Tugs. Dinner boats. Pilot boats. Yachts. A retired fireboat. Rubber dinghies that held two people. The largest water evacuation in history.

NY Waterway did not wait for the official call. After the second plane hit, the whole fleet moved. Captain Rick Thornton nosed his ferry against a seawall that was not a slip and started taking people off. Some of them he pulled out of the river. His company alone carried about 158,000 people to Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Brooklyn, and Queens.

On a normal Tuesday they carried 34,000.

The Staten Island Ferry moved more than 50,000 people and came back the other way with water, bandages, and men who still had work to do in the dust.

The old fireboat John J. Harvey, already retired, tied up near the Museum of Jewish Heritage, took civilians off the seawall, then pumped water when the hydrants downtown died.

Lt. Day later admitted what the day required. “I broke more rules that day than probably I’ve enforced in my whole Coast Guard career.”

In raw numbers it was bigger than Dunkirk. No boat went down. By nightfall the southern tip of Manhattan had been emptied by people who were not on anyone’s list of heroes when the morning started.

They were tug captains. Ferry deckhands. Pilots. A lieutenant with a microphone. Ordinary boats answering one sentence.

All available boats.

[The Biblical Man @Biblicalman]

Dolly Parton is dead, and the church never knew what to do with her.

Half my feed is posting rhinestones today. The other half never trusted her, because she would not wear the uniform.

She never preached a sermon.

She just did the works.

One man. Fifty-eight years. In an industry that eats marriages. No scandal reel, no reality show, no trading up. Just Carl, and a promise kept until death did them part.

She could have built towers in Nashville. Instead she built in the mountains she came from, so the people she came from could work.

Two hundred million books. Given away to children, free, no strings, while the rest of us argued about what to read.

A million dollars for a vaccine in the middle of a plague, and she called it what it was: helping.

She was a feminist who never used the word, a superstar who never left home, and a believer who never made you watch her pray.

"Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works." James 2:18.

We spent years asking whether she was one of ours.

She never asked whether we were one of hers. She was too busy feeding children.

I do not know her heart. That was never my job. I know her works, because the whole county she came from lives on them.

"Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." Matthew 7:20.

You want to honor her today? Put down the tribute post. Put a book in a kid's hands. Stay married. Do the works.

That was the whole sermon. She just never said it out loud.

For many people, all of life is about control and thus a power struggle with others. This life is all that counts so you have to win as much as possible.

Now take that & apply it to many Christians who have not mortified that impulse and that explains a lot about their theology.

It's actually outrageous that Fauci would, after receiving a full pardon, take the Fifth. Not legally outrageous. Just a sign that he is a man of profoundly deficient character unwilling to take any kind of accountability for anything he has said or written or done.

Virtue "refers to behavior that shows high moral standards, or a specific good and moral quality in a person. It is the practice of doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong, and it is generally defined as the opposite of vice."

Today we salute you, Mr. Gas Generator Tesla Owner.
You dropped serious money on an electric car, then immediately solved range anxiety the old-fashioned way — by towing a roaring Honda generator behind it.
Stuck in Texas traffic on I-10? No problem. Just fire up the fossil fuel and let ‘er charge while you roll. Pure electric… with a side of gasoline.

The next time you hear JD Vance casually accuse his critics of unpatriotically spreading misinformation, remember that he described the *accurate* descriptions of the MOU as Iranian propaganda. He says what he needs to say in the moment without regard for the truth — or decency.

@DPCassidyTKC My Brother in Christ, recovery is a long and can be frustrating process. One thing a PT taught me is you will have good and bad days, often they are not connected. Don't waste your energy on why a day is bad, save it to celebrate the good and very good days. I will pray!
