First Lady H.E. Mama Rachel Ruto on Thursday reaffirmed her commitment to environmental conservation and community empowerment by leading a major restoration initiative under the Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihood Improvement Programme (MFC-ICLIP) in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County.
During a visit to Baringo Primary School and selected restoration sites within the Mau Forest Complex, the First Lady adopted a 31-hectare restoration block at Marindas in Bararget Forest Station and commissioned a one-million-seedling tree nursery established through the Green Generation Initiative.
Speaking during the event, the First Lady underscored the importance of collective action in restoring Kenya's degraded ecosystems, noting that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility that requires commitment from all citizens.
"Restoration of our ecosystems requires our collective commitment, shared responsibility, and sustained action. Today, I was honoured to adopt 31 hectares of the Marindas Forest Block in the Mau Forest Complex for restoration and to commission a tree nursery that will raise thousands of indigenous seedlings to support the regeneration of this critical ecosystem," she said.
The First Lady emphasized the vital role forests play in Kenya's environmental and economic well-being. "Our forests are the lifeblood of our nation. They protect our water towers, sustain biodiversity, regulate our climate, and support the livelihoods of millions of Kenyans. I invite every Kenyan to join this national movement. Plant a tree, nurture it, and inspire others to do the same," she added.
Speaking at the event, Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change Dr. Eng. Festus Ng’eno said the First Lady’s leadership continues to inspire environmental stewardship while empowering women and children. "Her vision demonstrates that environmental conservation can be a pathway to prosperity and improved livelihoods," said Dr. Ng’eno.
The PS highlighted significant progress under the MFC-ICLIP programme, which was launched by President William Ruto in October 2025 as a 10-year community-owned and partner-driven initiative aimed at restoring the degraded Mau Forest ecosystem while improving livelihoods for communities living around the forest.
According to Dr. Ng’eno, the programme has already restored 1,500 hectares of degraded forest using 1.5 million indigenous tree seedlings in Marindas and Gacharage restoration sites. Through the Adopt-a-Forest initiative, leaders and partners have collectively adopted 1,635 hectares for restoration.
The programme has also attracted support from approximately 75 partners, mobilizing nearly KSh1 billion worth of resources, with 99.5 per cent contributed in kind.
Beyond conservation, MFC-ICLIP has supported more than 10,230 farmers in Kuresoi North and South through nature-positive value chains including potato farming, dairy production, pyrethrum, avocado cultivation, beekeeping, agroforestry and tree nurseries.
The initiative has strengthened community enterprises through the provision of certified tree seeds, dairy cooling equipment, modern potato seed systems and beekeeping infrastructure, particularly benefiting women and youth groups.
Dr. Ng’eno highlighted the success of the Trees Establishment and Livelihood Improvement Scheme (TELIS), which allows communities to grow food crops while nurturing tree seedlings on designated restoration sites. So far, 4,650 households have been allocated restoration plots under the programme.
He noted that the current 1,387.5 acres under potato production could generate over KSh333 million per harvest and nearly KSh1 billion annually, significantly boosting the local economy. #LindaMauBoreshaMaisha

This morning, I chaired a briefing meeting with the organizing team as we finalized preparations for the upcoming visit by H.E. the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya mama Rachel Ruto to the Mau Forest ecosystem in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County.
The visit will mark a significant milestone in advancing environmental conservation and community empowerment through the adoption of 33 hectares of the Marindas Forest Block, reaffirming Kenya's commitment to forest restoration and climate resilience.
The First Lady will also commission the Mama's Kitchen Garden and biogas unit at the Baringo Primary School an initiative that promotes sustainable food production, clean energy, and improved nutrition for learners. In addition, 25 waste bins will be handed over to the school to strengthen proper waste management.
We remain committed to ensuring a successful event that showcases the importance of partnerships in restoring our environment while improving livelihoods and supporting sustainable development.

Father, as I worship and seek You today, let Your presence fill my heart. Let every burden be lifted, every silent battle be answered, and every heavy heart receive comfort and encouragement.
Today I declare:

To All Fathers,
On this Father's Day, I celebrate and honour the invaluable role that fathers and father figures play in shaping families, nurturing values and building strong communities. Your dedication, sacrifice, guidance and unwavering commitment continue to inspire future generations and contribute significantly to our nation's progress.
I thank you for your service to your families and to society and I wish you a Happy Father's Day.
A PRAYER FOR FATHERS
King of kings, on this day, we bring all fathers into Your loving hands.
Thank You for the gift of fatherhood and for the responsibility You have entrusted to them. Bless every father with wisdom, strength, patience, and faith as they lead and care for their families.
Father, grant them the grace to be men of integrity, compassion, and courage.
Fill their hearts with peace when they are burdened, hope when they are discouraged, and joy as they witness the growth and success of their children.
Protect every father from harm, temptation, sickness, and discouragement.
Strengthen those who are working tirelessly to provide for their families, and open doors of provision, promotion, and financial stability. May the work of their hands prosper, and may they lack no good thing according to Your riches in glory.
We also pray for fathers who are facing challenges of sickness , grieving, unemployment or separated from their families. Comfort them, restore them, and remind them that You are their refuge and strength.
Heal broken relationships between fathers and their children, bringing forgiveness, reconciliation, and renewed love.
We have prayed all this through the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
Amen 🙏🏾
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL FATHERS.

Fare Thee Well Mama Angelina Othina Ojoro of Kigwa village, Suba South Constituency in Homabay County.
The matriarch Angelina who passed on at the age of 90 was not only my staunch supporter but also a personal friend for years.
Kenya’s journey toward a sustainable future continues to gain momentum through strong partnerships and collective action. Today’s engagement reflects our shared commitment to aligning economic growth with environmental stewardship.
Today, I joined the leadership of the Central Bank of Kenya, the National Treasury, and key stakeholders from the financial sector, led by Governor Dr. Kamau Thugge, for a tree planting exercise at Karura Forest, graciously hosted by the Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr. Alex Lemarkoko. This important activity marks the beginning of the Central Bank’s 60th Anniversary celebrations.
This event underscores the critical role of partnerships in advancing our national ambition of growing 15 billion trees and increasing Kenya’s tree cover to 30 percent by 2032.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Central Bank of Kenya on six decades of exemplary service. The Bank has been a pillar of economic stability and resilience, and its decision to celebrate this milestone through tree planting reflects a deep commitment to sustainability and intergenerational responsibility.
The forestry sector continues to play a vital role in our economy, contributing an estimated KSh 396.7 billion annually, according to the 2026 Economic Survey. I therefore call upon financial institutions to scale up investments in agroforestry, commercial forestry, bamboo, carbon markets, and ecosystem restoration.
Climate risks are increasingly becoming financial risks. I urge the banking sector to champion innovative green financing solutions that will accelerate restoration efforts across the country.
I also invite the Central Bank and its partners to support upcoming Mazingira Day activities through tree seedling donations and restoration initiatives.
Together, we can secure a greener, more resilient future for Kenya.
