EDUCATION OVER SITUATION - A young person struggling in a traditional classroom isn’t necessarily a young person who can’t learn. Yesterday, I asked a room of 15-year-old boys predicted to become NEET … Not in Education, Employment or Training … a simple question:
“How much would you need to earn every month to never worry about money again?”
Answers ranged from £5,000 to £10 million a month.
I asked the student who said £10m:
“If you made £10m a month, would investing be an option… or a necessity?”
He said an option.
So we did the maths.
At 3% inflation, something costing £10,000 today would cost roughly £21,000 in 25 years.
So even if he earned £10m a month and spent none of it, his money would still lose purchasing power and be worth half in 25 years time.
I asked again: “Option or necessity?”
Necessity.
By the end, the whole room understood it.
Investing isn’t merely a route to becoming wealthy. It’s a necessary skill for protecting wealth from inflation - outside getting more expensive.
Whether you have £1,000 or £1 billion… you don’t just need to learn how to build wealth. You need to learn how to protect its purchasing power. We worked on employability first. I coached one student through “Tell me about yourself” and within 10 minutes his answer was significantly better.
The process is simple: earn an income, save some of it, then learn how to make those savings work for you.
We covered inflation, compound growth and the S&P 500.
By the end, five students said they wanted to start putting aside £5 a month to invest.
£5 isn’t the point… the habit is.
My biggest takeaway?
A young person struggling in a traditional classroom isn’t necessarily a young person who can’t learn.
International Safe Abortion Day is about promoting safety. And that cannot be achieved without the decriminalisation of abortion.
