@skdh@IrishPoliticsNL They're suggesting she isn't actually able to speak Irish fluently enough to do it without preparation.
Somewhat common as they are proudly attempting to resurrect a fairly dead language that nevertheless is hard to learn.
@John_Stepek@DanNeidle Looks like a nightmare to actually implement. Where there are winners and losers the electorate won't tolerate there being losers. But that's the whole point - it's not meant to leave everyone overall untouched.
@DanNeidle Is it correct here that LVT for Band A is £1 and Band B is £115? Is that a threshold effect in the calc? Can't just be a simple increase in area or land value/unit area
@richardwadams@John_Stepek@MerrynSW Coverage of the 23% in report is extremely brief! Must be based off heavier discounting of assumed positive future cash flows, thick with assumptions and not so good for generating headlines. Little curiosity from both left and right just usual talking points
@John_Stepek@MerrynSW Agreed but it's something like a real terms fall of 5% during that period and only a portion of people's wealth so really can't explain 23%. Heavier discounting of pensions because of our particularly high interest rates? I don't believe the number basically.
@rcolvile@CPSThinkTank As others have said the time gap between the course and the pain to the university is a problem. Staff, administrators will have moved on. Even with the best will in the world they have limited upfront power to improve things. The link between performance and result seems woolly
@DanNeidle Could get rid of the majority of inheritance tax. Not that exciting or politically palatable. But could remove a large chunk of people pulled in by fiscal drag.
@KathrynPorter26@ret_ward Does anyone actually understand what went wrong with the inverter? It was at the Núñez de Balboa photovoltaic facility in Badajoz right? I think the REE report said they genuinely weren't sure, in part because Iberdrola claimed it didn't have the fault data?
@DanNeidle I don't believe the current Labour goverment will achieve this deficit reduction, especially towards the end of a term when they're fighting for their lives. I don't think they intend to try very hard. So it'll be option 3 from your list. I don't think this is a good idea.
