‘Things can’t get any crazier’ is something I’m hearing a lot, and it is exactly wrong.
Crazy possibilities grow in exponential proportion to crazy occurrences.
It's not Silicon Valley anymore. It's Technology.
Tech is now remote-first. Moving to the Bay Area is no longer necessary. And outages, fires, prices, and dysfunction are driving out the people already there.
The place is less appropriate as a metonym for the concept.
Remote-first will rapidly improve.
All major tech companies and countless startups are working on this every hour of every day.
The ultimate dogfooding.
Observation: there isn't a single remote Schelling Point like Linux that everyone can contribute to. No open source Zoom, due to hosting and bandwidth.
Maybe there's room for something which is to Zoom what GitLab is to GitHub? Perhaps it has a different form.

Yes, yes New Zealand is doing great on COVID.
But perhaps we can also spare some praise for, say, Vietnam? Vietnam maintained a 99-day streak without community transmission of COVID-19, and it has 19.5x the population, 15x the population density, and 1/15th the GDP/capita of NZ.
Build a list of people you want to work with someday.
~100% of them will be unavailable when you write their names down.
You'll probably believe you'll never actually get a chance to work with >80% of them.
Keep at it long enough and you'll be stunned by how wrong you were.
Insightful. A media network is content-first while a social network is connection-first.
It's a continuum. The limiting case of a media network is a broadcaster: all content, no connection. And the limiting case of a social network is a messaging app: all connection, no content.
