I am still amazed at how aggressive herd expansion was in 2014/15. In that rebuild phase, the number of heifers on feed as of July 1st dropped below 3.4 million. Yesterday’s report showed there were 4.24 million on feed, after 5 years of being at or above 4.35 million.

Wonder why farmers are shitting themselves when they aren't getting the rains? This gives you a pretty good idea.
In the past 13 years farmer inputs have increased by 68%
Equipment costs up 75%
Commercial seed up 49%
Fertilizer prices have doubled.
This is not sustainable.
