If you can create a life for yourself where you don’t need to pay attention to the government you should. It’s a real edge in this reality tv world we live in.
The "permanent underclass" we all fear is forming will look normal on the surface. Government handouts will allow them dignified housing and clothes. Underneath, however, will be a mind lost to entertainment and gambling.
Can you concentrate? Is patience available to you? That will be what the aristocracy notices and uses to grant admission into their ranks.
Study trust fund babies.
The post-AGI economy will have a lot of similarities and lessons learned around proper parenting at the risk of spoiling your child will carry through as well.
There will be an initial boom in areas like travel and experiential living that will far eclipse the small post-Covid remote working millennial wave.
Status will become more valuable.
But always remember that society is reflexive and technological progress will continue and so this boom will be ephemeral.
It will however be vicious and like nothing we’ve ever seen before.
Constraints like the four-day work week or saving for retirement are about to fall away for large segments of the western world all at once.
What they do next will be fascinating.
@AtishaGuptaa@TMTLongShort This would be such a good outcome that I’m skeptical it will happen. Most people will use newly gained free time to numb themselves online. It’s hard to imagine people doing the even-harder-than-a-job work of self-realization.
@BowTiedYukon The right strategy is to only pay attention to politics just before an election so you can vote for whoever aligns with your top priority the most. Then tune out completely and build stuff. Anything more than that is entertainment.
The way to avoid being in the so-called “permanent underclass” is some combination of the below:
- be ripped/fit/metabolically healthy
- read of a lot of books so that you can “hold court” in intellectual conversations IRL
- if you don’t like to read, then pursue physical-travel challenges that you can talk about to impress/inspire people in social settings (e.g. hiking the AV1)
@BowTiedBull I have learned that the product that’s right for me is always reviewed the same way:
- it’s the best in class in every important category
- it loses points for being too expensive
@BowTiedBull This was actually my killer use case for AI. Just give it a fuzzy description of what you at and it does a good enough job estimating macros and calories. This plus daily weigh in and you’ll have no problem running a deficit.
I wake up at 4am and try to write bangers but the bangers don't come. Why? Because I'm not retarded enough. I think when the youth say you need to become more "retarded" they mean you need to filter less of what comes to you naturally. Just say it. That's marketing in this age. The problem is that this comes with consequences for the life you built before you became a retard. A couple of years of savings, at minimum, is what you need to navigate that.
You need to cut people out of your life that hold you back from winning. I want to win. How am I going to do that? I am going get these chunks of text out there that say something you've been thinking but never found the words to say out loud. And then you're going to share them with you wife.
@JoeCassandra This is just an anecdotal, so take with a grain of salt, but when I went keto to lose weight, I started eating a lot of steak. My wife naturally joined in because it was around. She also was told she had low iron. After a month or two her iron was normal.
@Cernovich I moved to DC in 2017 to look for a comms job. I got introduced to the head of comms for Fauci's office at NIAID. I could tell from one coffee that they viewed themselves as superior figures to the nation and that information needed to be "shaped" for weak minds.
