How I made 15 figures with an $80 investment: time for a thread on affiliate marketing👇
@gtmba_ This isn’t why the saying sucks.
It sucks because every mediocre startup declares itself a “rocketship” and then uses the quote to convince someone to take a worse or equal role because they should just be grateful to get on.
Product isn’t the company.
You can have a great product and still have bad leadership, bad territories, a bad comp plan or a market that just doesn’t care enough.
I’m interviewing to figure out if this is a place where I can actually sell and win. Clicking “start free trial” tells me almost nothing about that.
Sounds like those AEs dodged a bullet
@sammarelich This.
In this position ~ year ago. Told recruiter I was making 5-600k per yr over the past 3 yrs. Better offer top of pay and equity band + show a path to those earnings in year 1 with MM upside in years 2+
Others playing entry level games wanted the job more and were DQed
@FidelCacheFlow Even if it was true who the fuck cares. I’d continue cashing commission checks 10x the size of his biggest deal while he plays the game on “hard mode”
@SayNoToTrading@pepemoonboy Job is a means to break out of the matrix. This job provides high salary (capital) and remote flexibility (time) to invest back into the break out strategy.
The trick is knowing when to stick with “the playbook company” and when to bounce.
I’ve been at two playbook orgs back-to-back, leadership wants you to run the book, but the best reps modernize it quietly. As long as results are there, no one complains.
The time to leave isn’t because it’s a “playbook company.” It’s when the math stops working, quota jumps 30% YoY, territories shrink, or the comp plan dries up. Until then, run the modern playbook inside the old one.
Totally accurate, keep those bankers out of tech sales so we can:
- Make mid 6 to 7 figures
- Meet with their c suite to close 8 figure deals
- Who needs “career progression” (politics) when you hit bullet 1
- Colleagues not ambitious? Perfect, less comp plan pressure
- Work remote, live at the beach, skip NYC taxes
Please don’t tell them the truth.
Next time you want to complain about your banking / PE job, remember tech sales is the alternative
- Make less than 6 figures
- Cold-calling the entire day
- Little career progression
- Colleagues are not smart or ambitious
- Work and live in a third-tier city
Mediocrity
One org wants your soul
The other wants to know how fast you can close a $2M deal
That’s the difference between a place that worships its principles
and one that builds a culture around producers
