Today, @SenBlumenthal and I introduced the Save the Kurds Act.
I believe that there is strong bipartisan support for the idea of protecting the Kurds in Syria and beyond because they have been such a reliable ally to the United States. The SDF – with a large Kurdish element – took the brunt of the fight to defeat ISIS in President Trump’s first term.
I realize Syria is complicated culturally, ethnically and politically. However, attacking the Kurds greatly diminishes the United States’ standing and will hinder Syria’s ability to grow as a country.
To those countries or groups who believe it is open season on the Kurds in Syria without consequence, you will be sadly mistaken.

.@LindseyGrahamSC called on Saudi Arabia to end what he described as its “attack on the United Arab Emirates” and slammed the country’s silence regarding the Syrian government’s constant assault on the Kurds.

My beloved fellow Kurds,
In these difficult days, I urge you not to lose faith or fall into despair. I strongly disagree with those who say President Trump @realDonaldTrump has abandoned the Kurds, and I reject the painful comparisons being drawn to the tragedy of 1975, when the Shah of Iran abandoned the Kurdish revolution led by the great Mullah Mustafa Barzani.
History must be understood, not misused.
What is happening today is not abandonment it is realignment. Geopolitics is shifting, and with it alliances adjust, but the Kurdish cause is not disappearing. On the contrary, this moment can strengthen us if we understand it wisely.
The Kurdistan Region of Iraq, under the exceptional leadership of President Masoud Barzani @masoud_barzani , remains the heart of the Kurdish nation, the only successful and sustainable Kurdish experience in modern history. It is our anchor, our refuge, and our political center of gravity. From here, and only from here, can Kurdish rights be protected and advanced for generations to come.
Biji Kurdistan !
Biji Kurdistan !
Biji Kurdistan !
I recently spoke with @POTUS and @SecRubio, and I very much appreciate their efforts to bring stability to Syria. It looks like President Trump’s efforts have paid off, at least in the near term.
The Trump Administration is engaged, ensuring stability replaces the chaos that they inherited. I would encourage regional partners to reinforce President Trump’s message that we need stability not fighting. Secretary Rubio is very much hands-on in that effort.
Neither the region nor the world needs another bloodbath in northeast Syria. To President Trump and Secretary Rubio: well done.
Congress stands ready to help maintain stability and to push back against regional players who harm America’s interests by moving against reliable allies like the Kurds. Saudi Arabia is uniquely positioned to have influence on the Syrian government, and I hope they will exercise it for the benefit of the region and all concerned.
Thank you President Trump for your leadership.
As previously stated, I am trying to work with the administration and regional partners to prevent a bloodbath in Syria against our Kurdish allies. It is now time for the region to change their ways and man up for decency.
To Saudi Arabia: I have tried to work hard to chart a new path for relations between your country, the United States and the region. I have tremendous respect for many of the changes that have been embraced. However, the Kingdom’s attack on the United Arab Emirates and their silence regarding the Syrian government’s constant assault on the Kurds has to change. Please understand that I am smart enough to know that Saudi Arabia has influence on the Syrian government, and I expect them to use it to keep the region from falling further into chaos.
To Saudi Arabia: Thank you for your attention to this matter.
MÜRŞİTPINAR SINIR KAPISI DERHAL AÇILMALIDIR
ACİL ÇAĞRI!
Buradan açık ve güçlü biçimde çağrıda bulunuyoruz
*Mürşitpınar Sınır Kapısı derhal insani yardıma açılmalıdır.
*Sivil toplum kuruluşlarının ve dayanışma ağlarının Kobanê’ye doğrudan yardım ulaştırmasına izin verilmelidir.
Watching the deteriorating situation in Syria with great concern. The Kurds are under threat from the new Syrian government that is aligned with Turkey.
It would be a disaster for America’s reputation and national security interests to abandon the Kurds, who were the chief ally in destroying the ISIS caliphate.
Therefore, I will be introducing legislation this week designed to impose crippling sanctions on any government or group engaged in hostilities against the Kurds. The Save the Kurds Act, I believe, will receive strong bipartisan support and must have teeth to make it effective.
Stay tuned.
