#ONStorm #ONwx 🤔 Surprise Snowstorm for Southern Ontario Starting Tonight? ☃️

We’ve been closely watching a system that weather models have really been struggling to get a good handle on over the past few days.

This slow moving system is expected to move into Southern Ontario beginning tonight and then linger through much of the day on Thursday.

Based on the latest data, it now looks like this system has the potential to bring significant snowfall to a wide swath of Southern Ontario, including the GTA, Central Ontario and parts of Eastern Ontario.

Snowfall totals in the 15 to 30 cm range look like a reasonable expectation for the hardest hit areas at this point. However, there are growing signals showing the potential for localized pockets closer to 40 to 50 cm, especially somewhere in the Lake Simcoe to Peterborough corridor.

Models are finally starting to come into better agreement, with this morning’s data being the most consistent set of runs we’ve seen so far. And wow, that consistency came with a noticeable ramp up in snowfall potential.

That said, there is still some disagreement on the exact placement of the heaviest snow. Some models spread it further west into Southwestern Ontario and across more of Central Ontario. Others keep the core of the heavy snowfall focused from the Golden Horseshoe eastward into Eastern Ontario.

We’re currently working on a detailed forecast this afternoon using the latest morning model data and will have it posted shortly. Stay tuned.
