The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.
Can confirm.
In December, 2020, Alberta's US union allies leaked to me information they had obtained from the Biden Transition Team that he planned on abrogating the KXL Presidential Permit as his first Executive Order, immediately following the inauguration.
They (our US union allies) urged me to get PM Trudeau to call then President-elect Biden to stress that this would be unacceptable to Canada, and to ask - at the very least - to delay a final decision until we could discuss KXL with the new Administration.
I immediately passed the urgency of this onto PM Trudeau, pointing out that KXL would be worth a $35 billion annual lift to Canadian exports, would create thousands of high paying jobs, and generate tens of $ billions in government revenue over time.
Trudeau refused to lift a finger.
No call made. No message sent.
And when Biden signed the EO on January 20, 2021, zero complaint was registered by the Government of Canada. The message sent was "let's just move on to cooperate on climate policy and a progressive trade agenda."
So it's a little ironic to hear "elbows up" rhetoric from some of the folks who were eager to surrender our vital economic interests contra Joe Biden's assault on Canada.
Today, I led a letter calling for the removal of Magistrate Judge Teresa Stokes, who released a 14-time offender who went on to murder Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte.
This tragedy was preventable. There must be accountability. North Carolinians deserve better.
Last night, President Donald Trump endorsed Mark Carney.
Why? Because, as Trump said, he’s “easier” to deal with, and knows that I will be a tough negotiator and always put Canada First. Carney is weak and would cave to Trump’s demands, just like he did when he moved his company headquarters from Canada to New York City.
Canadians don’t want a weak and conflicted leader. They want a strong Prime Minister who will put Canada First.
@elonmusk Elon, why are you posting this? How can you not recognize that a united and peaceful Europe is good for humanity? I think this is ignorant, tone-deaf and takes for granted that this continent was ravaged by war less than a century ago.
It’s with great sadness, we mourn the tragic deaths of our friend Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau.
Our hearts are broken by this devastating loss. Johnny was and always will be a member of the Flames family and loved by all of Calgary.
President Biden is right, there is no place in America for this kind of violence. As a country we may not agree on everything, but we should be able to agree on that.
Two and a half years ago, a rocket carrying the world’s most powerful deep-space telescope began a journey one million miles into the cosmos.
The Webb Telescope offers us a window into the history of our universe.
Take a look at the latest glimpse from that miraculous window:
There is no place for the glorification of terror in Canada (or anywhere else). Hamas’ murder and rape of innocent Israeli civilians is despicable.
Conservatives condemn the displays of hatred and justifications of cruelty that have followed the terrorist attacks against Israel.
21 years ago on 9/11, the world was darkened by monstrous acts of terrorism that claimed the lives of thousands of innocents.
Today we stand shoulder to shoulder with our American neighbours, and vow to #NeverForget.
