Mary Anne MacLeod was born on May 10, 1912, in the village of Tong on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland.
She was the youngest of ten children in a large family. She grew up in a simple home where Gaelic was spoken and life was modest.
In 1930, when she was still a teenager, Mary Anne decided to leave Scotland to start a new life. On May 2, she left Glasgow on a ship called the RMS Transylvania. After several days at sea, she arrived in New York City on May 11, just one day after her 18th birthday.
Immigration records show she worked as a domestic worker when she came to the United States. She also arrived with only $50 in her pocket.
Life in America slowly changed for her. She later met Fred Trump, a businessman from New York.
They fell in love and got married on January 11, 1936. Together, they built a family and had five children: Maryanne, Fred Jr., Elizabeth, Donald, and Robert.
Her son Donald Trump later became one of the most well-known political figures in the United States and served as the 45th and 47th President.
Mary Anne MacLeod's life story is often remembered as a journey from a small Scottish village to a new life in America.
It shows how she left behind a quiet rural childhood and built a family that later became widely known around the world through business and politics and public life over many decades. ♥️
Just before 9:45pm on June 25th, 1996, a fuel truck was driven into the parking lot of military housing complex Building 131 in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. It was followed by a white car. The driver of the fuel truck jumped from his seat and ran to the white trail vehicle which then took off at a high rate of speed. Moments later an explosion estimated at ten tons of TNT detonated outside Khobar Towers which housed 2000 members of the U.S. Air Force’s 440th Airlift Wing involved with enforcing the no-fly zone against Iraq. 19 U.S. personnel were killed and over 500 people were wounded. Evidence suggests that the explosives were smuggled into Saudi Arabia by Lebanon’s Hezbollah operating out of the Bekaa Valley with assistance from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. Iranian-backed Saudi Hezbollah al-Hejaz advance teams had conducted close target reconnaissance forty times prior to the attack and had been observed and reported on ten of those occasions. FBI investigators believe the attack was planned over a three year period with approval and backing from Iran with the goal of pushing U.S. troops out of Saudi Arabia and the greater Gulf Region. In 2006 a U.S. federal court found Hezbollah and Iran guilty of the bombing and ordered Iran to pay $254.5 million to the families of those killed in the attack. In 2018 Iran was again implicated in the attack and ordered by a U.S. federal court to pay victims $104.7 million. In 2020 a U.S. District Court cited evidence that Iran aided Hezbollah in carrying out the attack and ruled that Iran pay $879 million in damages. Iran continues to deny any role in the bombing and has yet to pay damages to the families of those wounded or killed.

Since our movement is trending right now, let me introduce myself:
My name is Scott Presler.
I’m an Eagle Scout & son of a retired Navy Captain.
I moved to Pennsylvania in 2024 & launched an organization for the sole purpose of helping to re-elect President Trump.
I’ve spent the last decade of my life registering tens of thousands of voters, electing Republicans to all levels of office, & helping to build up Republican structures from the county & state levels.
I’ve traveled to over 40 states to grow the Republican Party.
For the last 6 months, I’ve met with members of Congress to pass the SAVE America Act — which would require photo voter ID & proof of citizenship to vote.
What I’m advocating for has overwhelming support from the American people.
Yet I was not allowed entry to a dinner last night in Rapid City, South Dakota, because Senate Majority Leader Thune was present.
When they go after me, they are really coming for you.
I will not be bullied, pressured, intimidated & I won’t stop pushing for the country-saving SAVE America Act.
Thank you for having my back — peacefully.
"Now that we know the political significance of my $8.75 coral maternity dress from Old Navy..."
Second Lady Usha Vance is poking fun at The New York Times after it examined the "politics and power" of pregnancy fashion, citing her recent wardrobe as well as focusing on Karoline Leavitt and Katie Miller.
Vance fired back by revealing the dress mentioned by the Times came from Old Navy and cost just $8.75 after discounts, joking that she can't wait to see what the outlet has to say about her "elastic-waistband pants and compression socks."
She even posted the receipt to prove it, with her husband Vice President JD Vance getting in on the joke, saying "America: meet your next director of the federal budget!"
Brian Sweeney's voicemail to his wife Julie (Jules) from flight 175 on 9/11.
"Jules, this is Brian. Listen, I'm on an airplane that's been hijacked. If things don't go well, and it's not looking good, I just want you to know I absolutely love you. I want you to do good, go have good times. Same to my parents and everybody, and I just totally love you, and I'll see you when you get there. Bye, babe. I hope I call you."
Life is so full of tragedy. Be kind. Take nothing for granted ❤️
A very rare photograph of Virginia Hall before her shooting accident in 1933.
The future SOE and OSS agent was working in Turkey at the US Embassy when she shot herself in the left leg while hunting. Gangrene set in, and her limb had to be amputated.
Fitted with a prosthetic wooden leg that she christened Cuthbert, Virginia walked with a pronounced limp. However, she still managed to evade the Nazi's in occupied France.

Sorry to report the death of actress Ann Blyth at the age of 98, about two months short of her 99th birthday. Her family confirms the news. Ann earned an Oscar nomination for her supporting role opposite Joan Crawford in the 1945 film, “Mildred Pierce.” May she R.I.P. 🙏
A group of high school kids skipped class in 1964 to go see the Beatles. They didn't get into the concert but while they were driving, Ringo pulled up beside them and snapped a photo...
When they told their friends, no one believed them.
Fifty years later, Ringo published his book of photos and they were in it.
Sometime after that, the 'kids' reenacted the shot."
Unglaublich!⚡️
Back when filming Death Wish 4 I got to make friends with one of the original bad asses Charles Bronson. Both him and Clint Eastwood were the superhero guys I looked up to, they were regular guys that just did what had to be done. #tbt
She had been performing since she was eleven years old.
Irene Ryan spent decades working in entertainment. She appeared on vaudeville stages, performed on radio shows, acted in Hollywood films, and even toured with Bob Hope during World War II to entertain American troops overseas.
She built a solid career through hard work and persistence.
Then the jobs started disappearing.
By the early 1960s, the phone had almost stopped ringing. Irene was still talented, experienced, and eager to work, but Hollywood had largely moved on.
Like many performers, she found herself waiting for opportunities that no longer seemed to come.
Then everything changed with a single audition.
CBS was developing a new comedy called The Beverly Hillbillies. The producers already had another actress in mind for the role of Granny.
Irene auditioned anyway.
She pulled her hair into a bun, stepped into character, and delivered a performance that immediately changed their minds.
The role was hers.
Looking back, it's difficult to imagine anyone else playing it.
The Beverly Hillbillies became one of the biggest television hits of the 1960s. At its peak, it was the most-watched show in America.
And Granny became one of its most beloved characters.
She was outspoken, clever, fiercely protective of her family, and always convinced she had a cure for whatever problem appeared.
Audiences loved her.
Soon people stopped calling Irene Ryan by her real name.
At grocery stores, airports, restaurants, and public events, she was simply Granny.
Many actors struggle when a character overshadows their identity.
Irene seemed to accept it with good humor.
In a 1963 interview, she joked that six months earlier nobody cared whether she was alive or dead. Now everyone wanted to know how old Granny really was.
She wasn't complaining.
She understood how quickly fortunes could change in show business.
More importantly, she appreciated the second chance she had been given.
When The Beverly Hillbillies ended after nine successful seasons, Irene didn't retire.
She moved directly into a role on Broadway in the musical Pippin.
The performance earned strong reviews and reminded audiences that she was far more than one television character.
She was a skilled performer with decades of experience behind her.
In 1973, while still appearing in Pippin, Irene suffered a stroke and later passed away at the age of seventy.
She worked almost until the very end.
When her family selected the inscription for her gravestone, they could have chosen many titles.
Actress.
Comedian.
Performer.
Instead, they chose the name millions of Americans had used for years.
One simple word.
Granny.
After a lifetime in entertainment, it was the role people remembered most.
And she seemed perfectly happy with that.
On 12 July 1962 the American supercarrier USS Independence was steaming through the Mediterranean with the Sixth Fleet when her lookouts spotted a three-masted sailing ship under full canvas, a sight that already belonged to another century. The carrier flashed a signal asking the stranger to identify herself. Back came the reply by light, "Training ship Amerigo Vespucci, Italian Navy." She was a tall ship launched at Castellammare di Stabia near Naples in 1931, her black hull banded with two white stripes in memory of the old gun decks, 26 canvas sails spread across masts more than fifty metres high. The Independence, eighty thousand tonnes of steel and aircraft, took her in and signalled a single line in return, "You are the most beautiful ship in the world."
The compliment outlived the carrier. The Independence was eventually scrapped, but the Vespucci is still sailing, the oldest ship in commission in the Italian Navy, and Italians have called her the most beautiful ship in the world ever since that afternoon. The story did not quite end there either. On 1 September 2022 another American carrier, the USS George H.W. Bush, crossed her path in the Adriatic and sent almost the same words across the water, telling the old ship she was still the most beautiful in the world, sixty years to the season after the first time. Few exchanges between warships are remembered with any fondness.

Captain Myles Keogh
U. S. 7th Cavalry
This is a photo of the battlefield marker at the location where Keogh fell. In 1879, three years after the massacre, it was the first battlefield monument on Last Stand Hill later to be replaced by a white headstone in 1890.
His horse Commanche was the lone survivor of the battle,
100 years. One remarkable life.
Today, WWII veteran Albert Snider turns 100. He served in the Navy, once jumped off a train just to call his mother, then came home to build a life of faith, family, and love.

He wanted to fight so badly that he lied his way into the Marines at 14, and when they tried to keep him out of combat, he stowed away on a ship to Iwo Jima.
Six days after his 17th birthday, he threw himself onto two grenades to save three other men.
And then he survived.
