I met on zoom yesterday with some of my classmates to discuss our project. We had a great collaboration and I can't wait to see how the final one turns out! #educ200#04Sp22
@Sophie_Corson Hi Sophie! This video assignment was really interesting because it lead to a great discussion about how to approach explaining special needs to children. It definitely made me stop and think about what the best way to handle inclusion is. #EDUC200#04Sp22
@laurenand_dukes Hi Lauren! The power dynamics between the shaping of school curriculum is much broader than I ever would have guessed. It's important for people to know what kind of influences they can have in shaping a student's education. #educ200#04sp22
@angrichmond@jodi_seitz@dawnkingCCPS@ReamsRams That is so cool! At JMU I have been taking classes on how to explain math in a way that is easy for elementary schoolers to understand. I've definitely learned that when given the right tools and assistance, students are able to figure out mathematical problems on their own.
@kmansfield2112 Hi Kelly! It was definitely interesting to discuss how even textbooks today can reflect biases. Some of them were so subtle that I had never even considered how it may be biased and potentially offensive to others. #EDUC200#04sp22
@JBritton2025 Hi Jane! I can agree that 3rd grade is vital now that our class has looked at some facts and statistics. Regardless, each grade has its own unique experiences, which is why it was fun to see everyone's different guesses. #EDUC200#04sp22
Sometimes it's good to go back to the basics! Today our class visited apa format and how to properly do citations, and then practiced it. This definitely made me feel better about citing in apa format, something that is a crucial academic skill #EDUC200#04sp22
@kmansfield2112 @SashaBrandenbe1 @TrianaStapleton Kelly, it's a great point that the foundation of the US education system has evolved already from what it started as. It became more secular as public school became more common. Education is definitely still changing and it'll be interesting to see what happens.
@KaleighDoris Hi Kaleigh! My group also focused on the traveling article, and how that reveals privilege. I thought it was important to understand how some people experience privilege because they don't have to worry about being judged for what they are wearing, how they are acting or speaking
Today in class we discussed 50 things that may make us more privileged than others. It was insightful to see how even something as simple as having less than an hour commute can make someone more privileged, and it reminded me how lucky I am myself. #EDUC200#04sp22
@SashaBrandenbe1 It's interesting to read how the meaningfulness of the work is also responsible for creating dependability for some Olympic teams. The athletes' ambition is balanced to create a healthy competitive atmosphere that still allows for everyone to be successful.
This article showed how one of Google's norms, psychological safety, was applied to a company. Employees felt safer discussing family life issues, making their environment more comfortable, which increased happiness and productivity. #EDUC200#04sp22
