🚨 Big News - We did a thing today! 🚨🚨
It has been a few months since I last said, “Here we grow again,” but I’m pleased to share that we have another incredibly exciting piece of news.
In our largest deal to date, I’m ecstatic to announce that we will acquire @TechstrongGroup, a leading technology media and research firm.
Early in 2024, I had the opportunity to get to know Techstrong Group CEO Alan Shimel and his executive team and learn about their business, which consists of a diverse portfolio of high-value media and research assets serving a broad swath of the technology industry with deep expertise on a number of the most significant technological trends like DevOps, AI, CyberSecurity, and Cloud Native Architectures. It only took a few conversations with Alan for me to realize that we had tremendous synergy, and that the addition of the Techstrong Group would provide our customers with an even more complete set of offerings spanning from data-driven research, market intelligence, and performance testing to highly traffic content hubs, video events and webinars, and rich customer intent data. Together, we have all the tools required to deliver what I have always envisioned: The future of “Research Led Demand Generation.”
The addition of Techstrong Group’s massive data-driven audience (15M+ targeted technology buyers and decision-makers) and demand acquisition capabilities to Futurum’s analyst-centric research, insights, and advisory services will enable us to deliver our customers with precise, measurable results that can attribute value for our customers and support critical initiatives that include analyst driven market insights and clear measurement of return from marketing and research investments.
The Futurum Group and TechStrong Group will serve over 600 of the world’s most prolific and fastest-growing technology companies, including 15 of the 20 largest by market cap. While these types of acquisitions often overlap, I’m thrilled to announce that the overlap of customers was less than 25% of our current customer base. This small overlap allows us to deliver more services to our shared customers and introduce a collection of high-value research and media offerings to a large number of net new customers–building a comprehensive end-to-end value chain that can offer research, market intelligence, testing, and performance benchmarking and intent-driven demand generation all powered by our powerful combined content engine that will feature hundreds of weekly articles, videos, podcast, webinars, and events.
In today’s fast-paced tech media and research market, it is no longer good enough to serve up news, commentary, and analysis in just the written word. Today’s market demands real-time, live information in channels and form factors that they can digest quickly on their terms. Techstrong’s rich media offerings combined with The Futurum Group will allow us to deliver live video over the web and OTT channels on a daily 24x7 format. This approach is the future of media, and we are providing it now.
The Techstrong Group will continue to operate as an independent company within the Futurum Group under the leadership of current CEO Alan Shimel. We will collaborate with the top-rated Techstrong Live event coverage, the weekly Techstrong Podcasts and its TV show, as well as all of its video-based media and to extend distribution of leading content platforms, including our leading video analysis platform, The Six Five Media, which features more than 25 top analysts from The Futurum Group and Moor Insights & Strategy, and the home of the annual Six Five Summit. We will also pair up strategically to distribute and promote Tech Field Day content across the Techstrong Network.
The Techstrong Group will also feature data from our leading market data platform, Futurum Intelligence, and our popular benchmark and testing operation, Signal65.
Can you tell I’m excited?
Over the past seven years, The Futurum Group has worked tirelessly to build the most comprehensive value proposition for our clients. I’ve always believed that data-powered analyst insights paired with robust distribution from influential names in the industry will be critical to standing out in a noisy world full of content, enabling technology vendors and buyers to make good decisions. With this partnership, we can offer a complete set of services while continuing with our fast-paced, innovative way of delivering for our customers.
Thank you so much to all of our loyal clients, partners, and team members who continue supporting our business. Welcome for new customers, partners, colleagues, and friends joining this acquisition! I am so excited to see what comes next. Today is a new day, a great day.

Is Adobe’s use of Midjourney a big deal? Let’s walk through the situation 👇🏻
Adobe largely trained its models on its @Adobe Stock Images but did you a very small percentage (~5%) that came from other models and image generators.
I think this approach is to be expected and it doesn't make Adobe's claims of a more ethical approach completely inaccurate. What it does do is bring to light a broader conversation that needs to be had about Gen AI and open model approaches as well as data sets, licensing and rights, and continuous improvement and training and where does all of that data come from.
The broader and more diverse the data set the better (in most cases). I have a feeling that data being used to train most models have some notable nuance that creates controversy. We all remember Mira Murati from Open AI trying to explain how Sora was trained. Perhaps the boilerplate response for all training should just be “publicly available data.”
We want the tech and we want perfection, but at times we also don't really want to know how these black box solutions are built. I think Adobe is largely attempting to do the right things with its approach to ethics. It’s imperfect, but this topic is just heating up.

I've worked closely with @BroadcomMSD SVP and GM @GregLotko for a long time including co-hosting The Main Scoop with him.
I loved doing this Mainframe Summit interview with him. Rather than co-hosting, I put him in the hot seat and challenged him on the future of the industry, IT Modernization, Customer Success, and Growing a very successful mature business in the AI era. I also had him reflect a lot on the personal journey and learned a few things I didn't know about him and his career path.
