Three key slides from @Spotify's Q1 earnings report (beloved by the street, as its market cap went up 16% following the announcement, close to its all-time high)
1. Revenue - consistent quarter-by-quarter growth across both premium and ad-supported segments.
2. Gross margin - a step change in both premium and ad-supported (which swung from negative to positive. This is important because ad-supported had been viewed primarily as a "funnel" towards premium, but now it's gross margin-additive on its own right.)
3. Operating expenses are down quarter-on quarter and year-on year. The combined effect of higher revenue at a higher gross margin and lower expenses = operating income went from a €156m loss to a €168m profit YoY, and they guided €250m in Operating Income for Q2
