I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts. Some are great and some are meh, with most focusing on the investigation/capture side of things.
I started listening to “In the Red Clay” hosted by @SeanKipe, with no expectations otherwise.
This one was special and atypical and it’s been the only one that touched me so deep. I sat in my van to finish the last three episodes, simply to gather my composure before going inside.
Without giving it all away...it tells the story of the Dixie Mafia, focusing on Billy Sunday Birt, as the “heavy” for over 50 hits the DM put out. It’s uniquely told from the perspective of his grown son, "Stoney". This was a difficult series to listen to, going into some dark-hearted places, but the arc it took was shocking.
My Grandfather (Russell Hamp) was a Deputy Sheriff in Pensacola during the era this took place. Sheriff Earl Lee (in the series) felt like a mirror of him in both his lawman and Christian actions.
Also, Stoney wrote a book on this that I will be picking up, called “Rock Solid, The True Story of Georgia's Dixie Mafia”.
Thanks Sean and Stoney for the heart and time that was poured into this one.

I’m tagging some who I think would appreciate the arc of this story.

Am I the only one who has a backend port issue that won't allow the dev app to run, after the @Replit "update" they just did? Assistant has "fixed" multiple times and it still will not run. I am paying each time I request it to fix the problem it created.
