One of my favorite things about #ThePendragonCycle is the spiritual accuracy. I've weirdly heard about a lot of spiritual encounters and here's what I've learned:

1) in modern day America, we are sheltered from a lot of obvious demons. We think the old false deities are silly, but many of them were actually demons.

(⚠️graphic imagery) My husband once went on a mission trip to South Dakota to an Indian reservation, and he noticed scars on the people's bare chest and arms. It's because they worship the "tree spirit" and put hooks, which are tied to the tree, through their flesh, and then they cut off those chunks of flesh. But they said that "the spirits flee and go into hiding" when the missionaries come.

2) God is the strongest God, and the demons know it

A professor and church friend of mine told a story about her friend going to India and joining, essentially, a seance. Everyone was in a tent, and this American woman thought it would be fun to join. Everyone got a candle and they did a bunch of basic witchcrafty things, then each person started "embodying" the spirit. Each person took turns speaking in a low voice, which the American initially thought was cheesy until she felt something very creepy. Something was wrong, and she started praying desperately, despite not being much of a practicing Christian. The man currently speaking stopped, and said in that low voice, "Someone is praying." He turned to the American. "You. Get out." (She did, gladly.)

3) Prayer to God banishes demons

I had a friend and coworker who told me she used to be a wiccan. She was into oigee boards and all that. She used to have "lucid dreams," but not actually, because they were of things that were currently happening. One night she had a vision of a giant moth and instinctively knew it was a goddess of some kind, and later discovered it was indeed a Native American deity. However, the demon turned malevolent, radiating evil, and my friend got on her knees and prayed, "Jesus, please save me." And he did. Jesus literally showed up in her dream, and everything was okay. He told her many things and she doesn't remember any of them. After that, she didn't lucid dream anymore. I believe she was literally saved from demonic possession.

I have other stories, but they're either not relevant or came with demonic threats attached to sharing them, so I'll stick with these. Hopefully, this will not only enrich your viewing of Pendragon, but also fortify your soul.

Remember kids! The 9-1-1 of spiritual emergencies starts with, "God, I need help."

Critical Role's Brennan Lee Mulligan ditched D&D's dice in Campaign 4: no roll needed because a PC monologue was "too good."

Performance now overrides actual gameplay.

This isn't D&D. It's scripted celebrity theater pretending to be gaming.

@FloodedRealms 4th did what it was trying to do exceptionally well in that regard, it's probably the "best" edition. It also happens to not be what people really want out of a TTRPG.

Monsters frequently move faster than PCs, so both keeping stride and attacking is usually within their abilities (and that's not considering things like attacks of opportunity, if in the system).

The OSR are too stupid to comprehend aleatory. Sure, Critical Role is "scripted," but only marginally more than an average D&D game. Do you really think that these actors are memorizing multiple hours of script per week, even beyond their day job?
