I thought this was interesting. The superintendent of the Salem-Keizer school district makes $285,000/year. @TinaKotek - OR's governor - makes $98,600. So the person running one school district makes 2.89x more than the person running the entire state.

I have my production NAS - a Synology DS1621+ - and a home lab, warm storage NAS - a Dell VRTX running TrueNAS Scale. The writing has been on the wall for years with Synology going to proprietary drives. If you just need a NAS that works and has good support, still a good option.

Lots of talk about @Synology dropping 3rd party drive support. While I'm not the biggest fan of this in the slightest, they make a great NAS. For people, like me as a video editor, I just need a NAS that works all the time, every time. Synology has been that for years.
