The thing that stood out most to me was learning how "online" vs "offline" couldn't be compared to each other as separate entities. This has made me look at all aspects of communication, relationships, behaviors, etc differently than before. #450SocialSP23

Iterative journalism is something I've personally come across and didn't even realize it was a form of manipulation to the reader. Can you think of an article that claimed it 's "pending updates" or "unverified", but is actually spreading misinformation/fake news? #450SocialSP23

@AshleyS62035535 @DarneilleAustin I agree with Ashley. People can seem so great online because only so much of their authentic personality shows through and it's easy to create your own idea of them in your head. When you meet in person, they may have qualities you didn't expect. #450SocialSP23

@danny_appleford I was in a relationship that moved online for long distance, and it was definitely an adjustment. While I appreciate being able to communicate online with the person, it was hard at times to not be in the same place together. I can see how that may/may not work for some people.

I typically do it out of curiosity to and it's easy to access the information on social media, but would never actually stalk someone or go to great lengths in person to find more about them. #450SocialSP23

@danny_appleford I don't believe it's possible to be 100% sure that the people you're talking to are who they say they are. By cross-checking social medias and using context clues you can probably get a good idea if they're authentic, but that's a negative aspect of online comm. #450SocialSP23

@DarneilleAustin I believe genuine connections can be made online, however they're not an adequate substitute for in-person relationships. They are great supplement to real-life connections, but may be hard to be the sole form since they don't offer as much as in-person can. #450SocialSP23

"What Does The Selfie Say" brings up the idea of "inappropriateness" when taking and sharing selfies. What circumstances would a selfie be inappropriate? Does taking a selfie at a certain event, location, etc take away the true focus and shift it onto yourself? #450SocialSP23

@KelbyAndrew4 Selfies allow for us to create, as well as curate, an image where both the subject and photographer are our own selves. People take selfies for different reasons and it's not the same every time - it could be to show a reaction or portray ourselves a certain way. #450SocialSP23

The "Filter Bubble" reminds me of the selective exposure theory. This refers to people's tendency to favor information that reinforces their beliefs. Due to algorithms in social media, people (myself included) fall victim to unknowingly only seeing one-sided news. #450SocialSP23

@RehkemperLainey @LPFbsu With the rapid advancement of social media and the presence it has in society, it can definitely have detrimental effects. In online communication vs face-to-face, some people feel it lessens the value and comfortability of communicating and functioning in person. #450SocialSP23
