Got dry corn??? Difference between a couple weeks planting date and Hwy 20 vs Hwy 9 corridors.
Bill Long, Field Agronomist in Cedar Falls vs Chirstensen Agri-Seeds in Riceville, IA.
Early plant by Cedar Falls has the early CRM hybrids nearly able to go straight into the bin & full season hybrids at nearly perfect harvest moisture. One lost 9pts last week!!
Riceville with a "normal" April planting date needs hybrids over 103 CRM needing to even black layer.
Wide planting windows create wide harvest windows.
Be safe out there!!!
SCN continues to be challenging pest in NE IA. Great study by counterpart 2 west Bill Long showing power of Peking Cyst beans in managing SCN pops. Now is great time 2 sample & visit w/your local Pioneer Sales Rep on Peking source options! Possbile 1 bu yield loss per 1000 eggs
Soybean harvest moisture can have large impacts on final yield. Multi-year study shows being aggressive with harvest pays. Likely going to be green stems to chew thru w/13-14% soybeans but yield increase should justify the extra fuel and combine hours from slower ground speed.

My thoughts on Bayer’s E3:
- Indicates losing faith in Dicamba label
- Signals concerns about long-term a availability of glufosinate
- Admits that Enlist is the superior herbicide system
- @PioneerSeeds is and will be the clear performance leader in E3 genetics 🧬
Take some time this week to evaluate your planter performance! Check depth/sidewall/furrow quality across each row of the planter & make notes in your planter cab notebook! Rows between the duals may need to be a notch or two deeper!
A bag of seed corn, on average, covers about 2 1/2 acres. This @PioneerSeeds bag covers at least that! With @PrecisionPlant vSetSelect, we tried something new this year -a CORN MAZE- and it turned out terrific! Thankful for the team of people we work with each season! @CortevaUS

In 2020, Pioneer is launching a new lineup of corn on corn hybrids w/ Qrome technology. I have been getting a lot of questions how much data we have generated. We had over 2700 plots and fields of testing in 2019. Let us know if you’d like to see your local results.
Follow up from same field. Main stem height was same for both April and June planted soybean.
June planted finished with 18 main stem nodes, but lower nodes were blank and few branches. April planted had 21 main stem nodes, more branching and pods on all but bottow node.
“Hey my late planted (june 8) soybeans are catching up with my late April planted soybeans. They are the same height when I walk thru them. Wonder if there will be a yield difference?”
Looks a little different when you remove the leaves....12 vs 19 main stem nodes + branching.
High temps do not hurt corn yields if there is adequate moisture. A couple days near 100 will b ok if plants have enough water. If corn is rolling right before pollination it will b 2-3% yield loss per day.
Warm overnight temps r allowing for rapid GDU accumulation.. Middle of May plant dates r now showing we r slightly ahead of 10 year average. While we can’t make up the days of the later planting this weather is helping out the dryer bill this fall.
