I have been deeply immersed in the crypto space for many years and have developed a strong passion for DePIN projects over the past couple of years. I also enjoy flying drones as a hobby, primarily capturing outdoor scenery during bike rides, hikes, or vacations. While researching the potential convergence of DePIN, drones, and AI, I discovered Spexi. I joined the Spexi Discord community at the end of 2023, which inspired me to obtain my FAA Part 107 License.

Flying with Spexi was easy to pick up. The app is straightforward, and flights are fully automated; once you start a mission, the drone takes over, zipping through the grid autonomously while I monitor from the ground. This has not only funded upgrades to my gear but also given me a sense of contributing to something bigger, like training AI models with data that's 900 times sharper than satellite imagery. I was also fortunate to fly several off-network missions for Spexi.

With the launch of the LayerDrone network in April 2025, Spexi spun out the LayerDrone Foundation to create an open, independent, and decentralized entity focused on scaling the world's largest drone imagery network. This milestone has accelerated growth, with the Foundation now stewarding the protocol as a public utility that rewards contributors through missions, Reputation Points, and an upcoming utility token set for Mainnet launch later this year. As a result, pilots like me can earn more consistently while helping build high-resolution datasets for applications in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC), disaster response, and spatial AI.

Looking ahead, Spexi has transformed my drone hobby into a rewarding side hustle within the DePIN ecosystem. With the network expanding rapidly—launching in new cities every day, and aiming for over 10,000 missions monthly—I’m excited to keep flying and potentially participating in more special off-network assignments.
