@ManuelaDCIM It's definitely made me more reliant on the internet. I feel as if I'm always worried about what online work I have to do and find myself checking multiple times a day.
@ParthB64214519 The most important thing to me that we gain from online communication is convenience. We can talk to anyone we want, despite the distance between us. It also allows us to interact with way more people than we would in-person.
@mattabeRU I feel like social media has had a negative impact on my mental health. One of the biggest things that I've noticed is I compare myself to people I see online on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook.
#selfsocietyclass Why do you guys think are reasons why online harassment is so common? It feels like online harassment can be much more vicious and frequent than in real life.
@nataliefataru I think that's a very interesting idea, I know that the new apple smartwatches is able to do more and more so I think that is quite likely. I think that if it detects a seizure, that could be very helpful for those with epilepsy and similar conditions.
@LindemannKyle I think that is very likely, we are already seeing some jobs like trucking or the pharmacy industry replacing more people with machines.
@LuoHowan I've heard a bit about self driving cars, one of the things that interests me the most about it is the fact that it will likely be safer to drive with an AI rather than drive yourself.
#DCIM353McCormick One of the biggest takeaways from the course is how children are starting to grow up online. I think this is significant because of how much more common it will be in the future, and how it will affect future generations.

I think that 3d printing is going to become much more common and viable for everybody in the next decade. I think manufacturing markets and repair industries are going to especially benefit from 3d printing.
@YuknaLia I think that these mobile games are made to be addicting, particularly to get people to keep coming back and spend money on in-game purchases. I've seen stories of people who have spent thousands on these mobile games.
@notdylanrusso I actually watched a bit of this documentary a while ago, I think the part about teens who are lonely or depressed on the internet is very interesting because I can relate to it.
@JosephC24786253 Personally I can relate a lot to this internet addiction, especially recently. I spend most of my time staring at screens due to the current climate and due to online schooling.
#selfsocietyclass Addiction to mobile games is something you may hear about a lot these days. Many mobile games follow a model that is free to play, but contains real life purchases within the game. There are stories of people spending upwards of 10,000 dollars on one game.
@rojas_an19 I think celebrities often get more online harassment than normal people because we don't see them as "human". Dehumanizing someone can cause serious negative side effects which is much more common online than in person.
@ericaandself I remember something like this happened in high school. I felt bad for the people the user targeted, I think it's very easy for someone to attack another person behind a screen.
@laurentenRU Another way this image shows online harassment is through just the arms. Oftentimes people online are anonymous which allows them to harass others without fear of reprucussion.
#selfsocietyclass In regard to online harassment, "xenophobia, racism, sexism and homophobia were all seen regularly". In 2013 the popular website reddit accused an innocent middle eastern man of the boston bombing partly due to his race.
@sblrutgers What I find the most interesting about MMOs like World of Warcraft are the cultures that form around the game. People make endless content revolving around the game and I think that just because it's virtual, it still is a valid community.
@Atul95982518 I also played an MMO as a kid, and I think they're great examples of virtual communities. I've always found it interesting how in these games there's even virtual economies that people communicate and participate in.
